What happens if you agreed when you bought various census CD's etc not to offer lookups and then they catch you doing just that? I've got various bits for Cornwall which I bought from Archive CD books, and that was part of the purchase that you agreed not to offer look ups. Can they take you to court? Pauline

Hi Pauline, They don't want you to offer global lookups, but if you help someone who has asked that would be alright, below is a quote from Rod Neep of ACD Books " Do you get the gift of a FREE CD by helping others? I notice that lots of people are helping others by answering queries and pleas to overcome brick walls in their research.... by using the valuable information from the Archive CD Books. Not just looking for ancestors, but answering questions on all sorts of other topics about the villages and places where our ancestors lived. Wonderful stuff! This is what the family history mailing lists are all about. Helping others when they have a problem or a query. And of course, if you have the right books to hand, then they can be very useful. But that sort of thing does take up some of your time. I reckon that should be rewarded. Therefore I have taken just a few at random that I have seen over the last couple of weeks.... and the following 15 people can write to us at [email protected] and claim a free CD of your choice. Any CD currently in production, up to GBP 25.00 in value. For the full listings of over 1,300 CDs see" I see it was Cornish ones you have there are also having a special for Cornwall "To coincide with the lookup month there is a special offer for people who purchase Archive CD Books Cornwall CDs for ONE MONTH ONLY Order any *two* CDs from the *CORNWALL* section of the Archive CD Books catalogue.... and be charged for just one! Or order 4, and be charged for 2. THIS CD OFFER ENDS 9.00am (British Time) 31 January 2004" You have to on the Cornish mailing list to qualify. They recently did it for Nottinghmshire and i saved over £30. Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for clarifying that for me. I have taken up the offer from Archive CD Books for Cornwall, and saved £50. Now have 1841 & 1861 census, complete set of Philimore's marriages and Kelly's directory for 1893, plus the freebie for being a new customer. I'm very pleased with the quality of the scans as well. Just waiting to see if they do a similar offer for Yorkshire in the future! Regards Pauline

Hello I know I have asked this before but I have lost the info I received. I am looking for the birth of George Withey - father Frederick. He was 23 when he got married in 1869. He was 43 in 1891 census. So I am getting a whole range of ages. On the Familysearch site there is a George William Withey born and christened 1844/45 but that child died a year later. Also he has the wrong parents. I really need to order his cert but just can't find anything. It says he was born in Worcestershire but I have been looking under Warwickshire too as the Witheys in more recent times have come from Warwickshire?? Help
