Hi, please can you help?
I am looking for the marriage of James H Bird born 1794 in Norwich to Elizabeth P Bird born 1795 in Yarmouth. I would like to know Elizabeth's maiden name.
Their eldest child appears to have been born about 1823 in Yarmouth and they lived their until at least 1861.
In the 1861 census James has switched his name around to Henry James just to help confuse things!
Any help much appreciated.

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 29 Jul 2009 11:04

Hi Richard
Nothing conclusive I am afraid. I can only give you the ones listed....
There are no listings of a James H Bird so I can only give you the James'.....

16/8/1803 to Elizabeth Smyth at Swanton Morley
21/10/1807 to Elizabeth Puxley at Suffield
1/3/1808 to Elizabeth Grave at Colkirk
19/10/1819 to Elizabeth Cubitt at Colkirk
26/12/1828 to Elizabeth Owles at Mutford
24/11/1828 to Elizabeth Johnson at Hingham

The only marriage of a James Bird in Gt Yarmouth is to a Susanna Edwards on 26/12/1824

There are no marriages in Gt Yarmouth of a Henry Bird to an Elizabeth but there are just these two:-

Elizabeth Cook 9/2/1801 Skeyton
Elizabeth Riseborough 19/9/1813 Morston

No Henry J Bird listed.

I have to wonder if Elizabeth went under this name but was baptised another (as in Henry James, James Henry)? But there are no other marriages in Gt Yarmouth to fit either.

I hope you would be able to find out if one of the above ladies is the true Elizabeth. I did wonder if they may have been married in Suffolk, but as they were both born in Norfolk and their first child born Gt Yarmouth, I would think that unlikely. I do not have all the marriages for Suffolk (only 12 parishes included on the CD).

Good luck with it all.
If you have any more names to look up. Please get back to me.
Regards
Dee

Hi can you help me with the marriage of John Bridges and Elizabeth Barnes in 1836 in Norwich. I think John was born in Norwich and Eliz. in Mileham near Fakenham. Can you tell me who Johns father was? he was born around 1806 and died in1887.

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 31 Jul 2009 14:45

Clive

John Bridges & Elizabeth Barnes were married 8/11/1836 at Heigham St Bartholmew. I cannot give you his father's name as I only have the transcription of the actual event. You could try the Norfolk records offices and ask if they would look it up for you, now you know the date and parish. They have been known to do look ups FOC in the past, but they may charge.

I have looked to see if there are any other "Bridges" marriages in the same parish of Heigham St Bartholmew, 1801-1837 but there are none. So I have looked for some prior to 1806 when John was born in the Norwich parishes and found two which may be possible parents, again, you would have to check John's baptism with the NRO, for that parish to see if it matches parents.

These marriages are:

James Bridges & Mary Ann Devereux on 22/9/1805 at Norwich St Stephen &
Robert Bridges & Mary Redriff on 7/9/1805 Norwich St Swithen

Of course there are many more Bridges listed, but I have just picked out Norwich for you.

I have also looked for female "Bridges" and there are two married in Heigham St Bartholmew....perhaps John's sisters???

Elizabeth Bridges & Edward Waller 27/5/1828

Mary Bridges & George Bush 5/1/1824

You mentioned that Elizabeth could have been from Mileham and I have found a few Bridges married in the parish Beeston next Mileham....

Henry Bridges & Ann(e) Wilson 31/10/1803

James Bridges & Barbara Land 10/10/1803

John Bridges & Ann(e) Green 18/4/1803 (Possible parents???)

Thomas Bridges & Mary Mann 26/8/1832

Looked up the surname Barnes for Fakenham, Mileham and Heigham St Bartholmew and found the following.....

James Barnes & Mary Oughton 17/4/1801 Fakenham

James Barnes & Elizabeth Rogers 19/1/1808 Mileham

James Barnes & Margaret Coney 26/9/1815 Fakenham

John Barnes & Elizabeth Smith 5/11/1827 Heigham St Bartholmew

John Barnes & Rebecca Boddy 12/10/1836 Mileham

Jonathan Barnes & Susanna Russel 26/10/1812 Mileham

Jonathan Barnes & Margaret Kernaghan 30/3/1829 Fakenham

Lawrence Barnes & Mary Ann Bone 27/3/1820 Heigham St bartholmew

Miles Barnes & Mary Cranmer 12/10/1818 Fakenham

Robert Barnes & Elizabeth Chambers 13/2/1804 Fakenham

Robert Barnes & Ann Reeve 14/2/1837 Heigham St Bartholmew

Samuel Barnes & Sarah Salmon 21/7/1807 Heigham

William Barnes & Carolina Huggens 26/4/1815 Fakenham

Willaim Barnes & Mary Ann Bone 27/3/1820 Heigham St Bartholmew (same day as Lawrence - double wedding perhaps?)

& the females....

Ann Barnes & John Slater 5/11/1832 Heigham St Bartholmew

Anna Barnes & John Sexton 13/6/1829 Mileham

Catherine Barnes & Thomas Frost Beeston next Mileham

Ellen Ann Barnes & Robert Thompson 10/11/1835 Fakenham

Esther Barnes & William Flood 17/3/1834 Heigham St Bartholmew

Mary Barnes & William Harper 12/10/1802 Fakenham

Mary Barnes & William Chaplin 19/5/1828 Heigham St Bartholmew

Sarah Barnes & Matthew Watts 19/10/1819 Beeston next Mileham

Sarah Charlotte Barnes & Joseph Samuel parkinson 26/3/1817 Heigham St Bartholmew

Susan Barnes & Henry Munday 6/10/1822 Heigham St Bartholmew

Sussannah Barnes & John Howes 15/7/1818 Beeston next Mileham

Hope some of these are useful. Get back to me if I can help again.

Dee

Thanks for the info.
I have Jonathon Barnes born in @1790. His daughter Elizabeth was born in 1813. I have no marriage date for them. So if the marriage date is correct they married well after having their family. Do you have any clue as to Jonathan's parents.
Have just read your previous message when marrriage was dated 1812.

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 27 Aug 2009 15:00

Hello Clive
I have an appology to make. the marriage for Jonathan (note spelling) Barnes & Susannah Russel took place on 26/10/1812 (my eyes dropped a line on the transcription list-sorry).

As far as Jonathan's parents are concerned, I don't have that info as it is a transcription of the event. You will have to contact the Norfolk records offices in Norwich and ask them to look at the parish records. That should give the bride and bridegroom's father's name/occupation.

Sorry for the confusion.
Good luck
Dee

Hi Linda

Had another look, there are no male marriages, but I found this female:
Ann Barnard & James Frost 29/4/1819 at Wickmere could be an older sister?

There are quite a few Barnard marriages across Norfolk, if you have any specific names later, please come back to me and I will look again for you.

Also, if there are any other Riseborough names.
