Thanks for looking, Marcelle! Shame about that, do you know if there are any records available on CD for marriages pre-1813 or christenings pre-1754?

Marcelle Report 7 Nov 2007 17:28

Hi Jo

The only Henry Henley was baptised 23/09/1796 to a Richard & Elizabeth @ St Michael which is to early for you. I checked Henley & Henly.

Sorry

Hi Marcelle,

I do hope you can help me with my brick wall.
I am looking for a baptism of a George Sturge of Framton Cotterell, St Peters. I have been told that he was born to a Joseph and the widow Ann Payne in 1807. Sometime after Ann Payne then married a James Sturge and by 1810 they had a son called Samuel. As I have not seen the record myself I am wondering if the Joseph is in fact James.
I would be very grateful for your help.
Julie

Marcelle Report 9 Nov 2007 11:37

Hi Julie, from the baptismal registers:

George Sturge baptised 20/12/1807 born 10th Nov, Father Joseph Mother James. (Jones late Payne)

Hannah baptised 21/10/1804 Father James Mother Ann

James baptised 12/09/1802 Father James Mother Ann

Mary baptised 20/06/1798 Father James Mother Ann

Samuel baptised 25/02/1810 born 10th Jan Father James Mother Ann (Jones late Payne).

These were all the children baptised to joseph and ann or james and ann. All baptised at Frampton Cotterell.

Does this help?

If there is anything else to check/clarify let me know.

Marcelle

Hi Marcelle,

I'm looking for Eliza Baker, born 1811-1812 in Bristol.
She married William Coneybeer (Coneybear/Coneybeare/Conybeer) around 1836. I would really like to find out her parents name.

Thanks and regards,
Richard

Marcell you are wonderfull.

It does look as if there has been an error on georges baptism. Mother James?
Presumably his mother was born Jones then married a Payne then James Sturge.
The names of the siblings tie in as James Sturge mother was Hannah
May I trouble you further. Would it be possible to look up the marriages for Ann?.
Many many thanks. Julie

Just realised you only have marriages after 1813.

Do any of the above list fathers occupation?

Sorry Julie

I did a double check and it should have read

Please accept my apologies.

I did a search for baptisms for James and found this

James Surge Father Charles Mother Hannah 05/07/1767

Charles 30/01/1763
Mary 09/12/1764

All children of Charles & Hannah, baptised at Frampton Cotterell.

Once again please accept my apologies

Richard, there are tons of Eliza Baker's. Do you have any siblings for her?
Are you sure it is Eliza and not Elizabeth? so far found this:

William Loyd Conybeare baptised 02/12/1792 @ St Augustine. Father Samuel Mother Ann living at Key Street

Sarah Conybeare baptised 13/03/1785 @ St Augustine.

Mary Ann 05/10/1788 @ St John the Baptist
Edward 13/03/1785 @ St John the Baptist

All children of Samuel & Ann

William Coneybeer & Eliza Baker married 09/04/1833 @ St Paul

Will start looking for Eliza Baker but if you have any siblings that would give me a better idea

Hi Marcelle

Thank you for the update. I still have to presume that the father must be James and not joseph.
If you get chance could you take lokk for a Joseph Sturge born about 1810. I think he may be a cousin of Georges. When George marries he moves his family to Pontypool, monmouth. There is a stray marriage there for a William Henry Sturge in 1859. The father is noted as Joseph.

Many thanks

Julie

Many thanks Marcelle.

No bells ringing unfortunatly. Down the line it may become very useful. I know a lot of the Sturges in the area were quakers and alot of info is to hand for them. My family seem to be the strays. I think I will have to send of for the cd myself. Was it expensive?

Marcelle Report 9 Nov 2007 21:07

Julie, I ordered the baptismal registers 1754 - 1813 vols 8 to 10 and 11 to 14, Marriage index 1813 - 1837 and baptismal registers 1813 - 1837 vol 1 - 7.
I thought it would solve all my brick walls!! I should have known better! I have helped other people find things more than myself. The cd's cost £8 each plus p&p.
If for instance you have a jane smith and you want to check the marriage there could be 5 Jane Smiths all marrying in a few years of each other so you still cant work out which is yours. The same with the baptisms.
If you google BAFHS this is the history society you can buy them from. I sent my cheque Thurs and the cd's were with me Mon am, fantastic.
I notice on there they are now selling North Somerset marriages and Bristol burials
Good luck
Marcelle
