Hi Marilyn

When you say Porters Head do you mean Portishead? I think this may have come under Somerset or South Gloucestershire (I'm not sure which) back then. My discs do not cover Portishead. There is one John Shepherd but baptised in 1828 father John Mother Hannah @ St George (GLS).

There is also a John Henry Sheppard baptised 28/7/1833 @ St Mary Redcliffe Father John Mother Elizabeth

GRMarilyn Report 1 Jun 2008 19:11

Hi Marcelle,
You are not going to believe this but ,on looking at the 1891 census it reads B Bristol Porters head
then on the 1881 census it reads Bristol ( Head Porter)
So that clears it for me anyway !! but thank you for the Baptism that looks like Him.
Thank you for your time thats a great help.
Regards Marilyn

No luck with Sarah Cocker abt 1760 I'm afraid.

I did find the following Jones children to Felix & Sarah. All baptised at St Mary Redcliffe:

Felix Jones baptised 10/2/1788 @ St Mary redcliffe

Sarah Crocker Jones 15/08/1786

Daniel 18/09/1794

Daniel 18/06/1801

Hannah 14/01/1796

John Crocker Jones 14/08/1803

Mary 25/09/1792

Mary 02/04/1805

William 18/01/1798

William 29/09/1799

Dad Felix baptised 22/11/1757 @ St Mary Redcliffe
Father Isaac Mother Elizabeth

If you would like me to look for siblings of Felix let me know and will check disc 2 to see if she was baptised else where in Bristol

Marcelle Report 1 Jun 2008 19:21

Do you have any siblings for John that might give a clue?

Head Porter and Portishead lol made me giggle

GRMarilyn Report 1 Jun 2008 19:32

Hi Marcelle,
Yes got Henry Shepherd so far b1862 Plymouth

So I think I am on the right track but he might turn out to be John Henry got query on Marriage cert.
Thanks Marcelle,

Marcelle Report 1 Jun 2008 19:40

Hi Elizabeth

Checked all the other parishes for Bristol and no baptism for Sarah 1760. I tried variations of surname ie Crocker, Croker, Croaker and nothing I'm afraid. Did they marry at St Mary Redcliffe as its usually at the brides parish?

Jalanne Report 1 Jun 2008 22:24

Hi Marcelle
I've been looking for a marriage for years - Thomas Corbett married Elizabeth Larkham/Larcombe sometime between 1820 and 1826, somewhere between Stogumber Somerset and Worcester. Cannot find it anywhere, maybe they got married in Bristol? Massive longshot - but please could you check.
Thanks very much

Marcelle Report 2 Jun 2008 08:09

Hi Judith

Have checked marriage index 1813 - 1837 and no marriage for Thomas and Elizabeth

Marcelle Report 3 Jun 2008 19:09

Sorry but the baptism discs cover 1754 - 1837 and the marriage index 1813 - 1837
Anything between these dates I can look up for you

Good luck Marcelle

Marcelle Report 4 Jun 2008 18:49

Charmian Report 5 Jul 2008 19:22

Hello Marcelle

Is there any chance that you can find any info about Thomas Baker, born Bristol in 1816. I know that by 1839 he had moved to London but would be grateful for any info available for the time before this.

Thanks in anticipation

Harry Report 5 Jul 2008 21:21

William Hey, of this parish wool? stapleton, married Mary Morgan, St Michaels Bristol 2.11.1801.

I am looking for any children of that marriage. Just to complicate the issue, possibly Hay or Hay(e)s.
Many thanks, best wishes and happy days

Marcelle Report 6 Jul 2008 19:43
