Emily Cramb nee Duncan born in Perthshire in 1884.

Mary Report 13 Jan 2008 17:03

Hi Kate
Having problems with your Cramb folks,I cannot find Alexander W Cramb on a census before 1901.
His birth is registered as follows:
Alexander Watson Cramb Dec Qtr 1881 Portsea 2b 456.
This is not Southampton as you stated, but a part of Portsmouth.
I cannot find hhim or his parents on a search of 1881 or 1891 census.I would suggest that you send for a copy of his birth cert which will give an address and I can try to find the family on an address search.
However I have found this entry which is rather odd on the Scottish census for 1901.

42 Longcausway,Perth,Perthshire
Thomas Tosh Head 77 Retired Railmay pointsman b Curnbee,E Fife
Margaret Tosh Daughter 54 marital status not shown Housekeeper b NB Perth
Jannes Ower Cramb Gdaur 25 formerly drapers assistant b London
Alexander W Cramb Gson 19 Clerk solicitors office b Portsmouth
William T Cramb Gson 15 Message boy b Portsmouth
Margaret O Cramb 12 Scholar b Portsmouth

No problems with the Duncan family

1891 35 Scott St,Perth
John Duncan Head 36 b Methven,Perthshire
Elizabeth Duncan Wife 37 b Scone,Perthshire
Christina L Duncan Daur 11 Scholar b Perth
Emily Duncan 6 Scholar b Perth
Elizabeth A Duncan Daur 1 b Perth

1901 3 George Inn Lane, Perth St Pauls.
John Duncan Head 46 Lace dyer
Eliza Duncan Wife 41
Christina Duncan Daur 21 Muslin ironer
Emily Duncan Daur 16 Curtain ironer
Catherine Duncan Daur 8 Scholar b Perth
Andrew Duncan Son 6 Scholar b Perth
John Coutts Nephew 3 b Perth

Looks as if your Cramb family may be a difficult lot to trace.

Hope this info will get you going.

Regards
Mary

Thank you Mary, I'm very grateful to you for your efforts on my behalf.

I have found my grandfathers original birth certificate which gives no details other than his date of birth but I also have a copy dated 1910 which he obviously needed to post his wedding banns. It states that he was born on 9th October 1881 at 51 Baliol Road Buckland in the sub-district of Kingston in the County of Southampton. The Certificate says it is from book 77, page 92, entry no. 458 in the Registrars District of Portsmouth.
It also gives the names of his parents.
I will now go and put all this info in my family tree. Thanks again for your help.

Mary Report 14 Jan 2008 15:03

Hi Ginnie1
The chances of finding anything on John Pearce apart from his birth and death are fairly remote since both events are outside the period covered by available census info.
Do you know when his parents married??? and where??
Have you checked BMD records for John's birth and death??
A check of births for John Pearce on Freebmd shows several possibles between 1908 and 1910 in Derbyshire, these you can view for yourself.

Sorry I am not able to help further.

Ben
A location for the possible marriage of Evans/Turner would help considerably, names of children without year of birth is not helpful
Have you checked Freebmd?????

Possible marriage for Alfred Kendrick found on Freebmd;
Alfred Kendrick June Qtr 1889 Prestwich 8d 572 there are two possible brides called Mary.
When and where was their first child born???
