I presume this is William in 1861 but born earlier, maybe pre registration - Have you tried the Parish Records? |

Yes K He married Mary Ann Merchant in 1879 but your latest finds make him even older. Something of a mystery here. |

Hi Kay, no certificate yet as I only found his marriage today. The certificate seems like the only way forward to sort out the discrepancies. |

Good Luck - interesting that the potential brother James also called his first son Francis and was in the Navy Also both James and brother are living with a Francis in 1841 and below could be his marraige from the IGI |
