Hi, Louisa!!!

I have been trying to trace JOHN MUIR (1831, Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland).

I know he went to Australia, about 1850, with his brother, Robert, who was a butcher and died in Sydney in 1905. I, also, know that John found gold in Australia and I know he was alive in 1907 but I can't find his death or if he returned to the U.K..

Could you, please, please, look this up for me?????

Many, many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Lindy xxx

Hi Louisa,

Just logged in and spotted your great reply re Eli and Louisa Town and some of their children. It's very much appreciated Louisa, thank you.

I was interested that Louisa is listed as early as 1905 - the women got the vote much earlier in Australia than in the UK. Her sibling sisters back in England would have been pleased for her but would have had to wait a long time themselves for enfranchisement.

Once again many thanks.

Regards
Carl

Hi Louisa, could you please see if you would have my grandfather Herbert Cecil Stacey on a census. He was living at Rose Farm, Crookwell, NSW when he joined to Australian Army in 1916. He was sent to Australia some time after 1901. I have all his Austrialian war records but nothing before that.

Many thanks
Jill

Hi carl,

Jessie Street, womens "actavist" agong others fought for the right for women to vote. I think that as women had to be so strong in order to survive and raise a family in the early days of the settlement helped them "gain" the vote.

Hi Lyndy,

Could this be John' death record, it doesn't
have parents name just age. All others have parents other then Martha as mother or those with just age don't match DOB.

24697/1952 MUIR JOHN 82 YRS SCONE

Unfortunately there are too many with the same name, and with no middle name I cant narrow down the search
