Hi Mike

Asking for you help to find the parents of Isaac Underwood born c1826 Melton Mowbray please

I have him with James and Ann Underwood married 1828, but have just found on IGI a possible first marriage for James with a Sarah Goodacre in 1818 and children William 1821and Frances 1822.

Am wondering if Issac was Sarahs son and when Sarah died, which could confirm or not James was married twice

Having trouble finding Isaac on IGI

Greeting’s …….Sylvia

St. Mary’s Parish Church.
Melton Mowbray.

BURIALS :~

UNDERWOOD Sarah 13.th. September. 1823 Aged.26

Therefore I would say that going on the dates we have to hand
then Isaac is the Son of James & Ann née Cooper

Although like your good self I have yet to find Isaac’s Baptism to prove the above……

Maybe I’ll have a better idea once I’ve had a look around the Parish Registers held at the Records Office this coming week.

I see that on the 1841. Census William was working as an Ag. Lab.
On a Farm in Neither Broughton
Aged 20.
Plus there is a Frances as an inmate in the Female Asylum The Newarke
in the Borough of Leicester aged 15.
( ages were rounded DOWN to nearest multiple of 5 on this Census )

Thank you for that Mike, could you also possibly look for the baptism of James Underwood c1801 in Melton Mowbray please.

Sylvia

Adding to this as i may have found Isaac as he was born before the marriage of James and Ann , i looked under Cooper and found a baptism 14 March 1826, but it says parents are Thomas Cooper and Ann, now Thomas was Anns fathers name, is this possible please or have i got the wrong Isaac?

Right....I read the “ Leicester Journal 1866. “ page 1. to back page
Sorry no sign of the Inquest results on John Scotton aged 3 weeks. ….

Reading the headlines though……… I think it’s a very strong possibility
That John fell a victim of the “ Cholera Epidemic”
which was sweeping the County at the time…..
So many deaths from this that there was a notice in the paper that due to the large amounts of people dying from Cholera. …….
For the time being…….
There would be a bulleting posted on the door of the Infirmary daily with the names on it of those who had died. …Signed by the Chef Medical Officer. of the Infirmary. ……..

Hi Mike,

Could i have your opinion on this please.

Going through my paperwork this morning, on the 1851 census it says James Underwood was born in 1796 in Thorpe Satchville Leicestershire.

For some reason after looking at google maps, i decided that Twyford was a lot closer than Melton Mowbray.

Looking at Twyford on the IGI there is a James Underwood baptised in 1797.

Could this be my man? hes the only James on there.

Greeting’s again Sylvia.

St. Andrew’s Twyford cum Thorpe Satchville
Leicestershire.

James. Son of Adam & Elizabeth Underwood.
20th August 1797.

Other sibling’s of Adam & Elizabeth :~
William. 19th. August. 1799.
Joseph. 1st. February 1801.

Unfortunately due to the early dates
Then the Parish Registers will only be " One Liners "
and will not give us any other details to help identify James for sure
….like Father’s occupation.
So I would not dismiss this for now .....
until we can prove otherwise.

MARRIAGE :~

Twyford - Cum - Thorpe Satchville Parish Church.

Adam Underwood of Loseby Parish.~
Elizabeth Phips. of this Parish.
4th. December. 1796.
By Banns.

Marriages:
Spouse: Mrs Lucy Hurst
Marriage:

Thanks as always

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 4 Jun 2008 23:34

Greeting’s again Elaine.

There was only two C of E churches in WIGSTON MAGNA

All Saints & St Wistans…..
But I believe that St. Wistans was under repair at that time

So All Saints seems to be favourite.

1789. Charles Son of John & Ann Hurst Bapt ….19th August.

Can not see a Marriage of Charles to Lucy anywhere within both City or County of Leicester……..
And there is No Marriages on the I. G. I Batch numbers site for Stow market.

But Noted this Baptism :~

11th June 1810.
William. Son of Charles & Lucy Hurst.
Wigston Magna.

Then there are more on the St. Margaret’s Baptism Disc….

Seeing the years we may not be able to find out the Maiden name of Lucy except though the Marriage Registers
All the children were born before the certificates started That would have been an other way to find out her maiden name …..

I can cast my eyes over the registers at the Records Office but it will not be now till next week.

Mary Baptism 22 Oct 1787 Wigston

from Parish disc. It would be great if you could look at the registers for the marriage

Hi Mike
Karen of Brisbane here...

A couple of weeks ago you kindly did some look ups for me on the Noon family of the St Margarets area, which gave me heaps of leads, it was great.

I am now looking at the parish records 'film' for the All Saints area ( thru my local LDS family history centre). When I went to order the film it told us that these records would also include St Margarets, St Martins and several other areas that I needed. So my questions is , am I looking at the wrong film to find more info on my Noon and Goodman families ? and if so could you steer me in the right direction. Getting these films is the only way I can get the info from this side of the world. I am very lucky ( if its all correct ) with this film as its been typed out, so very easy to read.

Look forward to hearing from you...

Following on..

I would like to know what you see when you order a film via LDS and how much more (or not) you can view as opposed to what is on the net. I have never been to one of their centres to research and am curious as I need to look at parishes down south

I’m curious has to this FILM ?
Is it a reel to reel film where the parish Registers have been typed
Onto the pages ?
Or is it the FICHE Film measuring 5 x 4.
with several Parish registers on them ?

Hi Mike,

Could you check out a marriage for me when you have time?

I've found the following marriage on FreeBMD:

Marriages Jun 1888
Mason George Smith W Leicester 7a 315
NORTH Clara Leicester 7a 315
Plumtree Elizabeth Leicester 7a 315
Porter Amos Leicester 7a 315

The person I'm interested in is Clara North.
I can't find an obvious candidate for any of the 4 possible couples in the 1891 and 1901 census - there's always something that doesn't match.

Can you find who she married on your discs? She's not showing up in the Mann index for St. Margaret's.
