Margaret, I dont understand your posting - why would they trawl through 15 pages to get to the useful bit? Its on page 1.

Have you got the Sort By box (to the right top of every thread) set to "Newest First" instead of "Oldest First"? That is the only explanation I can think of that makes you confused by what we are doing to assist new members.

Most of us have that box set to Oldest First by default - which means a new member would click on the thread and read the first postings which contain the useful info.

Margaret, have you read Heather's Tips for Newbies? Good tips - constantly nudged so that they are available for new folk. What more can I say? I'm running out of explanations. ps. Feel free to join our group of happy talkative nudgers.

Unless GR can be persuaded to make a stickie out of this, there isn't any other way to keep it on the front page, so that newbies can read the first couple of posts.

And THAT is all that anyone has to read.

Meanwhile ........ peeps complained in the past because there were sooooooooooo many stickies on the front page, and they had to scroll down so far to get to what they wanted to read.

Seems to me you can't please everyone.

i dont think margarets getting the point,
you dont have to trawl through 15 pages or 17 as it is now the info is on page 1' all other nudges etc are to keep it at the front for newbies etc to see there is'nt another way to keep it there and some of us make quips along the way

It's me again, I said I would admit defeat, but I can't see how this lot helps a newbie at all. They might find the link up at the top of the page, but there is nothing of any value unless they trawl though 15 pages of mostly rubbish to get to the useful bits.

Folks, I am not complaining just for me, please do access the thread and imagine you are a newbie - it does nothing for you! It is a chatroom.

Sorry again, just trying to help others.
