Margaret, with respect as Heather says it is for people new to this.

I just wondered why you were looking at it if you weren't new! lol

*realises self is also looking at the thread and isn't a newby!*

Cynthia, this is a very useful thread. Thank you.

Just an idea: you may or may not know peeps, that you can delete your nudges but the thread will still be around. That'll save some pages. Try it, eh. :-))))

To Cynthia and everyone else (who correctly point out that wording is important, and I have not followed their good advice), I apologise. I didn't mean that the original post was ridiculous, I meant that all the little comments, nudges and deletions made the thread virtually useless in the way that it was probably intended.

At the risk of being classed a spoil sport, I don't really want to read about squeaky toys on the Tips Board. And whilst I agree that saying thanks is polite (and I would usually give thanks in a PM), I think there is a limit - I'm pretty sure that after 14 pages Cynthia and other contributors who made useful points have got the message!

Sorry if that upsets people, which I never intended and still don't, but it does make the thread very difficult to use - or at least it did for me, perhaps others are better at scanning the pages. I'm sure there's lots of useful stuff in there, I just couldn't find it.

Hi Margaret; just come off the other thread. Yes, I do see your point after you've explained. I'm glad I've been proved wrong, i.e. you didn't mean it in the way I read it. For once, I don't mind being seen as a prat! lol :-))

I don't know if peeps who've nudged want to try my suggestion further up the page .........?

Got to log off in a min., so maybe see you folk tomorrow. Hope the weather is better where you are than it is here in Devon!

Hi Margaret, apology accepted. It would be useful if other people could delete their nudges and lessen the pages I suppose, but the main point of the thread is on the first page. Any other comments are usually just thanks from those who have found the tips helpful. You really don't have to plough through them all. The odd squeaky toy comment is just a way of communication between nudgers - it helps build up a fellowship. Regards.

Thank you Cynthia. Yes, I do appreciate the need for fellowship, and have probably done my fair share of waffling on about personal stuff. I was nit-picking about the dog with the squeaky toy. Sorry to that lady, it just all got to me.

How do I not need to plough through them all? Is there some mechanism to get to the main point? I might not know that. I am no expert myself.

Glenys, I am sure you are not a prat! I think that label goes to me after this weekend!

But I still maintain that it makes thread hard to digest - especially when there is good stuff in there! I wouldn't have bothered making the point if it wasn't a potentially useful thread. Perhaps we need a Sticky that advises people to remove their nudges - but that probably won't work cos it means people have to remember what they have nudged. And my memory is pretty poor.

Happy hunting.

Hi again. As I said, you don't need to plough through all the pages because the main points are on the 1st page but, someone may add a couple of extra things quite quickly. After that, the comments are usually just thanks - and nudges - to help others.

Awww thanks Margaret! :-))

What I do in these circumstances is Cut and Paste onto Word, and keep those bits in my Genealogy folder on computer.

Works a treat, and comes in rather handy. You can always add to it, as well.

back from the cabin, so doing my duty!

Problem is .......... deleting the nudge doesn't actually remove the posting 'cos you then get get the deletion notice!! I wish you could actually remove the posting as you could on old FR and as you can on FRC! That really would save space.
