Maggie in Leics Report 20 Mar 2009 07:04

Karen,

Hungarton is not a million miles from Melton - about half an hour north east by car - tho it's more of a village than a town (nice pub tho I'm told!!).

Hi Mike,

Thanks very much for the Cumberland-Parkinson marriage and bond.

As far as the Billson marriage goes, I'm pretty sure they were Baptists, but I didn't think Baptists could marry in their own churches before 1837?

You didn't give me the marriage disc, but two others, which have been very well used :-)

Do you know if there's a disc which also has Leics. marriages pre-1800?

Hi Mike,

I see you are mobile after the 'toerag' took your car.....

When next you are in the office , could you please look up a marriage in either Hungeford or Melton Mowbray for...
Henry Harley and Eleanor ?? , their first child bc 1733 in Melton Mowbray. Not sure of their birth dates , but Henry's parents were William Harley and Joan 'Clouson', who I think were married in 1689 in Melton Mowbray.

Any info on these two families would be great.

Many tks for all your help...

Cheers.

No, I have the CD of Phillimore's Leicestershire marriages, but it doesn't include Loughborough (or Leicester, come to that).

Does the early Leics Marriages disc cover most of the county?

Ooh, brilliant, Mike, thanks very much.

Yes, you're right, Kitty's second husband was William Cumberland. Don't know if they married by licence.

John and Elizabeth were Kitty's parents. I'm pretty sure they were Baptists, but they must have been married somewhere.

I'm trying to sort out this lot because I've discovered a Chancery case involving the Parkinsons, Billsons, Cumberlands and Burbidges. It seems to hinge on the will of Kitty's father John Billson - I'm still waiting for the details.

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 18 Mar 2009 22:09

Greeting’s again. ……. Kathleen.

I had a few moments spare to day at the Records Office ……

So I had a look at the Burial Registers for the Parish Barlestone
These read thus :~

BURIALS 1911.

Entry No’ 392.

Ernest Gibson.
Abode. .... Barlestone.
8th. December. 1911.
Aged 9 yrs.
W.J. Bill. Curate.

So. ...NO mention of an address in Leicester.

Re :~ Burial No’.

No these are not the Plot Numbers….
It only relates to the Register entry.
But it does indicate that the burial took place
Within the Church yard or a Civic Cemetery.

Seeing the year date then I’m sure that by then they were obliged to keep a record of where the plot was in a Burial Plan of the Church yard
So…….
The latest contact I have for St: Giles Parish Church :~

The Rev’d Gill Dallow.
c/o The New Vicarage.
No’. 22, Bosworth Road .
Barlestone.
CV 13 0 EL.

If you drop them a note asking for location details for William
They might be able to help you.

Greeting’s again. …….. Kathleen.

The other reason I’m thinking it’s the same person for both events
Is that if it was two separate Deaths / Burials
Then there should have been two Index records of these events on the G.R.O. Site.
But there is just the one that being the Leicester one.
The other one would had have Market Bosworth District
Which Barlestone came under
Included within the Cert details.

But as you say best to order that cert and take it from there
But do not forget it’s a Death cert. so NO details of where the burial took place.

MIKE.

Thanks Mike for the up-date, I' m bit confused now though, can't see what the connection to Barleston would be, I think the only way to see if he's mine is to get the death cert.

Many thanks
