I posted this message earier this afternoon, but haven't seen it appear yet, so posting again, IF it has been duplicated my apologies:
One of my brick walls is Thomas Flanagan(various spellings) I have him up until the 1871 census after which he disapears.
I have checked all sites including BMD's in case he died. No luck so I put him to one side. However I've been clearing all my bits of paper out and came across the following notes; so I must have found him a long time ago and forgot about it :-) Trouble is I didn't put where I had found the information :-(( ------I'm better organised now----:-) . Does anyone recognise the form of the info? and can point me to the right site. It would appear from the age of the children to be the 1881 census, but all sites throw up blanks. since finding the paper have been able to find the family in Manchester in 1891 but without Thomas, the head of the family being down as a widow. I can't find a marriage or death for him so if I could find the 1881 census I could get an address which may help to find his death.

It couldn't possibly be 1881 census, in view of the dates

SORRY, I'm getting myself all in a muddle I should have said 1891 and 1901 census.

I'm looking for Thomas Flanagan(various spellings) born 1852 Chorley.
I don't thimk its BDM's as the info was "en bloc" and also Elizabeth Ann was born in lincs----maiden name Broadbent ( I've found childrens births but no marriage)

I'd say Eric the red is right - here is Ancestry's 14 FreeBMD results for a search for births of Flan*g*n in the Chorley district in Lancashire. Ancestry have since changed the display format a little, but I think it has all the ones in your list:

doesn't help me with thomas after 1871 though .
I had taken it that thomas was the head of that family, but can now see this may not indeed be a family unit. oh well shall keep searching :-)

thanks for taking the trouble, however as per my last mail I'm not even sure this is the family I'm looking for any more. Thomas is my relative and from my piece of paper I had asumed that this was a family, but if as suggested by Ivy this was just a list of BMD's from Chorley area then they may not be connected to thomas at all.

You're obviously right as this looks like the family in 1891. Image could be Flanagan or Hanagan. It doesn't solve your problem of Thomas but at least you can identify the family on your notes.

thanks for your input. I've come to the conclusion that this is not the correct family but thanks for your promt replies . I have taken note of this family in case they turn up in the future along my way. I suspect thomas will stay a closed book.
