I was wondering if there is anyone out there who know where I can research the workhouse records. The 2 workhouyses I am interested in are The Milthorpe Workhouse in Cumbria and The Kendal Union Workhouse in Kendal Cumbria. I know that the Kendal Union Building is no longer there and the Milnthorpe are now luxury flats. I would be pleased to hear anything at all about either of these workhouses. Regards Jan Webb

The workhouse records may be held at the council buildings. Worth a try.

Probably the most important online resource for workhouse records...

http://www.workhouses.org.uk

Put your interest into the search box.

It will include where the records for a particular workhouse are now held

Is this the birth you found? :-

The certificate would give you her mother's name.

The 1881 census posted by safc looks right to me.
