My brother in law and his lovely wife took me out for a meal last night, most enjoyable, they have been so kind to me since I lost my Mr Grumpy, not sure I would have coped so well without them, bless them. Glad to know you are all o k. I am saddened to hear about the dreadful fires in Australia, nature can be very cruel Still looking for Diane and she is still hiding, but one day perhaps Love to you all Evelyn XX <3

Nice to see a few of you back - I am no longer alone :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
Josie glad you have sorted some of your tree - if you ever need any look ups on census - let me know i have an Ancestry subscription - got it for Christmas - just drop me a pm or 2 - glad to hear you have some work
Sally thank you for the sympathy
Watched "Oranges & sunshine " very thought provoking - how did the governments get away with it - let alone the organisations all in the name of "Christian Charity" & what happend to the children in a civilised socirty is way beyond belief.
Thats me off my soap box for a sunday afternoon
Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Morning everyone! Seem to have been going thisaway and thataway for a while now.
Haven't forgotten you all - just that nothing really interesting has happened - just day to day plodding stuff :-D
I've been dipping in and out of my family tree too Kiwibird. As new info comes on line, I tend to go off in all directions and then wonder why it's bedtime again :-S
The fires in Oz are dreadful and I do hope all our friends are safe :-(
Reece, you sound much more your old self - :-D I've given up keeping too much stuff and now dispose of things which will be of no interest to my children. Makes life much easier I have to admit.
Going out in a tick so had better go and make myself respectable - will pop back later ~~~~

Don't despair Anne all is not lost ;-)
I have returned
Have been very busy for the last week, managed to get a good deal on Ancestry UK.
one months subscription for around £4 . Have never been able to afford a full subscription to Ancestry. So I have been spending each day of my break before I start work again on Monday working on extending both my Maternal Grandmother's family who lived in London, Surrey and Oxfordshire. And my maternal grandfather's family in Lancashire.
Discovered that a brother of my maternal gg grandfather who according to research done by a cousin was still single in 1881 and died around 1900.
I found him in 1891 living with a wife and 2 children next door to the address he was living in with his married Brother in 1881.
So have been busy finding his wife and 6 children he had before dying in 1901. A whole line we knew nothing about.
But the biggest discovery I made was on Boxing day when I could not access my Tree on here :-P So went to FMP instead as they had offered em 60 free credits. And decided to work on my maternal 3x great grandfather Wright's Siblings, a part of my tree I gave up on about 4 years ago as It was like looking for needles in a haystack..
After wasting nearly all my credits I finally found the right Benjamin Wright with a wife an a daughter in the 1851 Census. He then disappeared . After some detective work I finally found him in Australia :-D
He had gone to Victoria, for the Gold rush that started in 1851, 5 years later when he was established his wife and 2 daughters went out to join him he had a further 8 Children in Australia . And the oldest daughter had 14 Children only 2 dying, I have not even started on the other Siblings but it is very apparent that I have masses of cousins in Australia to find.
Luckily Where we now live is not far from a public library with a Geneolgy section and they have free access to Ancestry worldwide so have spent some time at the library finding Australian records.
My sub to Ancestry only allows me into the basic English set but been great for finding the rest of the family that did not emigrate.
I also got side tracked as I realised I could make contact with people on Ancestry who had copied some stories I had written and attached to my Tree I have had on Ancestry for years, belonging to my maternal grandfather.
They have been in touch :-) and are distant Cousins, one of them is able to provide me with some information in areas that I had run up blank.
So am feeling very HAPPY :-) :-) :-) as far as my family researching in 2013 is going. It takes my mind of mine and OH'S work situation :-( I have got 29 hours next week and possibly the following but beyond that have no idea. Normally it is very quite this time of year with everyone away on holidays before School starts back at the beginning of Feb, however a massive survey the company undertakes every year for a government department, on peoples use and habits when it comes to Alcohol and should have been completed in Dec,
But the government departments who commission most of the surveys the company undertakes, where very slack this year and did not provide us with the names and numbers we needed until the end of Nov instead of in Sept. leaving us with only 2 useful weeks to try and complete what should have been 2 months worth of work, even 60 extra people being employed in Nov, so it has meant that we got work for Jan.
For those of you in the UK Be thankful that you are getting some of that Wonderful White Stuff :-D Australia is on fire, and those not burning, are slowly roasting in the extreme heat. While in NZ you have the choice of either being washed away or blown away with mini tornadoes touching down in random places and torrential rain washing Campers out of their tents in Campgrounds in the far north.
Temps are around 22-32 Cel depending where you are, In Wellington. we are around 23 Cel most days with 15-17 Cel overnight.
Luckily a lot cooler and much more pleasant than at Christmas :-0 But have been having a lot of gale force winds up to 130 kilometers an hour, that are not conducive to spending time outside even if the Sun is shinning.
Hoping that your dip in the pool was cooling Susan, though I would imagine that the temp in your pool is most likely in the mid twenty's
I notice that Cynthia and Sylvia are busy with 'Fanny under Gaslight and a new family tree help site that has been started by some Genes members on Facebook, a really good idea.
Well take care everyone , will catch you later
Josie :-) :-) :-) <3 <3 <3 :-D :-D :-D

Ok - Where is everyone - have you all left the Thread in 2013
We have been threatened with the white stuff this weekend - not looking forward to it or getting colder
We are also moving office this weekend - so all our life is now packed up in a crate - so when we want something we haven't used for a while we have to dig around in the packing boxes - because its always the way - someone will ask for something when its no longer visable.
Looking forward to a view from our new office & high floor - at the moment we are at the back of the existing building on the ground floor with a high wall outside our window. We see the odd bird & cat & bit of greenery (so saying I am being looked at by a blackbird now) it will be strange after all these years in the same building - I think i have sat on every floor at one point in time & loads of different locations on the floors too, Front, back, either side & in the middle too. I have been in this off for 13 years now
Will let you know Monday what the view is like if we can get to it as they have built it on the corner of a very steep hill - not on a bus route either - so could be fun in slippery weather.
I use to walk up & down the same hill to school every day - so its like going back in time
Well must go - back to work -
Take care all ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi Everyone
Did not realise I have been missing from here for so long.
Hot Hot Hot that is all we are getting at the moment along with the rest of OZ, fires are everywhere in all states here.
Today we had 39c and very humid but tomorrow we have a break with 27c for us and 31c for Perth.
My poor Dad his air com went out Christmas Eve so he has really struggled over this Chrissy and New year,it is being fixed tomorrow apparently the motor burnt out but he is lucky as it is still under warranty.
It is 7pm here now and it is still 30c so I am going for a very rare swim in my pool.
Catch you all a bit later tonight.
Suex

Hello Friends,
A very Happy New Year to you all!
Oh Sylvia, hope you are feeling better now.
Little ones are all different aren't they - you do wonder what goes through their minds though at times like that - "Will I ever see Mummay again" kind of thought. And they do have amazing voices or is it lungs for such tiny tots?
Pleased to say that I am at last well on the mend now - still doing the exercises for the spine but the knees are complaining now!
No date for completion yet - have just sent a letter asking when?
Still going through the cupboards - found wedding greetings cards and S's first birthday cards this morning - he will be 52 this year! I just can't throw them away!!
Sally, send me some sun - it refuses to shine here and out in Oz it is trying to cook everything and everybody.
Hope you are all starting the New Year with a jaunty step.
Love,
Reece <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi all xxx
still suffering, in silence ;-)
OH went and did the weekly grocery shop ......... and brought me a soy latte home :-D
Daughter requested that we take a small Christmas pud over to hers, so OH made 3 puds in November, and we packed the smallest in one of the cases.
It was just the right size. 6 people plus a tiddler for Christmas dinner, but only OH, J and myself had any ............... the others all turned up their noses at it. We got pud for dessert on Boxing Day, and that was it, all eaten.
It was delicious ............. even though OH did not bother to make any brandy or rum sauce.
We had "fun" one day while over there. J asked if we wanted to go the mall on the Saturday, she needed to do some shopping, and "maybe I could leave MJ with you while I do it??"
We went, and she did. He was quite happy for a few minutes, until he decided to lick a mirror in the men's department. I stopped him, and he immediately started crying and shouting "Mummay! Mummay".
Funny thing was, he never once let go of my hand, and pressed up close to me.
All the assistants kept looking at us, and other shoppers gave us sympathetic looks. It went on for almost 20 minutes, and we then decided that she'd had long enough, and took him up to the next floor to find Mummy. J had to sit on the floor and hug him for several minutes.
At least he didn't fight us .............. and so no-one reported us!!
Not even taking him out into the mall to look at Santa's place helped!
take care
s xx

ooooer....realised I haven't popped in here for a few days.... :-(
To be honest, the week between Christmas and New Year is best ignored by me. My daughter finds it all very difficult to handle as she has a birthday in that week. It's just all toooooooo much for her and so, I have that to deal with.
Christmas was okay - lunch at son's was lovely.
Ignore the week until New Year's Eve.
We went to bed at our usual time and I didn't even hear the clocks strike 12 :-D
Things are looking up now that the festivities are over and done with. Normal service will be resumed. :-D :-D :-D
There do seem to have been a lot of errors for people on here over the week but I guess I am fortunate in that I only encountered it a couple of times.
I am fine with the tree now - it just takes some getting used to and have been doing some research to take my mind off things going on around me ;-) ;-)
Hope Sylvia feels better soon and love to all........Cx <3 <3

Hi Sue and everyone
I wish you all a Happy, Prosperous, and Healthy New Year.
We got home from our trip yesterday (Wednesday), and are still trying to sort everything out .............. plus, I have come down with a rotten cold and cough. I feel terrible!
We had a good time overall, although there were some very uncomfortable periods while with my daughter, caused by the son-i-l. We almost moved to a hotel at one point.
Talk about a small world ........................ everyone chats on the trains, one of the very nice things about train travel.
OH chatted to an Australian, found out he was an academic, and then that they knew about 9 people through their research! Contact will be maintained.
Later, we chatted to a couple from BC, charming pair ........... turned out the woman was a family doctor, had trained at the Family Practice clinic we go to, and is still connected with them. She was interested in hearing of the writing workshops that OH does, ad in the ethics he does ................ contact will be maintained!
Contact will be maintained with you lovely people :-D :-D :-D
take care everyone

Hello Sally,
When you have your tree opened look on the RIGHT SIDE of Page, in the TOP
CORNER, look down below SEARCH TREE then below some over Icons, you
will see a Small BOX WITH 2 ARROWS , Click on these ARROWS AND a
Panel will slide out with the details of your Person then SCROLL DOWN
and you will see all your notes.
You must click on the BOX of the Person you want to check out first , on
the main page other wise you will not get the Notes for the right Person
when you Click on the ARROWS.
Hope this makes sense and helps you to get into you tree.
Josie :-) :-) :-) <3 <3 <3
