If this is your first time on here and you post a question asking for help you need to be able to find it again.

When people reply to your post (often within a few minutes!) it becomes a thread.

To get back to "your thread" to read the replies and answer any questions the helpers might have to ask you just click on "My threads" which will be on the left hand side of your screen as below........

Boards summary

Announcements
Success stories
General chat
Quizzes and games
Genealogy chat
Find ancestors
Find living relatives
Suggestions

Tools

My watched threads
My threads
Advanced search

You then need to check regularly to see if you get any more replies. Every time you start a new thread or add to someone elses thread it will automatically go to "My threads" so you will will be able to find them easily....

The 2 main boards you'll need are

Find ancestors - where you can ask for help to find your ancestors or

Find living relatives - where you can ask for help to find people who might still be living which is a far more sensitive issue.

Good luck with your tree and don't be afraid to ask for help!

Kind regards,

Cathy

You can also "Bookmark" your thread by pressing the "Bookmark This"
button !

Then find it again by going into "My Bookmarks"

You will not get an e-mail advising you that people have replied to your post so you have to keep checking it.

thanks for the info, what does it mean when it says "post deleted by poster or administrator" ???? why would that happen.
I have been looking and using the boards for about a year and must admit that sometimes I am daunted by the fact that you all seem to know each other and it is a bit like entering a close clique......and not being sure of the rules, however I will keep on trying. many thanks to all who have helped in my search. Hi wellybobs,

What a lovely name!

"post deleted by poster or administrator" usually means someone replied to a thread and then deleted it...either because someone else answered with the same information or they made a mistake. It's very rarely that an administrator deletes one I think.

It can seem a bit daunting sometimes but most people on here are very friendly so don't feel left out....... just jump in with both wellies!!

If you're not sure of anything send me a PM (personal message) and I might be able to help or at least point you in the right direction....

Kind regards,

Cathy

it is good to be reassured, and I will certainly continue to ask for help when I get stuck, I have generally found people on here to be very helpful so once again thank you.
