Madmeg

you cannot post on Help Clinic threads unless you are either a starred advisor OR the thread owner

BUT that does not stop you posting and helping on any of the other boards

I was assured in my exchange of emails with GR that they had no intention of removing or altering the Boards ........... Tips, Record Office or any of them.

That means there will still be lots to do.

Estelle of GR did tell me that the Help Clinic was intended to help newbies, which was why they were intending to aim it only ar Standard members (having worked out that newbies took out Standard rather than Platinum or Gold) ............... didn't tell her that in my experience it's the oldies who are Standard members!

I was also told that the Help Clinic was one day a week?????

Most of the questions on there today seem to be from oldsters, ones who have had threads on the regular boards before, and not found the way through their "brick wall"

see you on the boards!!!

My latest complaint to GR:-

........ do you realise that your statement on the Help Clinic Guidelines that "Genes Advisors are not employees of Genes Reunited, they are members recognised by us for their effort and knowledge when helping other members." ................ makes the rest of us look inept ...... and will lead to poeple thinking that helpers on other boards are less than knowledgeable. This was not exactly what was meant when I and others asked GR in the survey earlier this year to make more recognition of the fact that all the help offered on this site was by members. How do you know that the Official Advisors ARE in fact the best and most knowledgeable helpers?? I can tell you for a fact that there are others who are much better than you would ever believe ................ and I do not count myself among them, even though I was one of the ones approached last week.

I'm going to sent to Coventry by them!

I am gradually removing nudges from useful tips threads that I have in my bookmarks :-)
At last the nudges can be deleted.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 19 Nov 2010 08:38

Presumably is you move a nudge that is the very last post, the thread moves back down the board to the time of the previous post.

Anyone checked?

Joy

Joy Report 19 Nov 2010 08:58

So far I have gone into a couple of threads and removed all nudges bar the most recent.

What has happened to all the changes made yesterday or is it just me?

The Help Clinic button has disappeared; My Threads is back and the reply box is no longer appearing at the bottom of the threads.

Potty, are you using a different PC to that you used yesterday? If so, log off from GR and log back in. That worked for me.

Thanks Rob - that worked.

Also, If you have saved any pages in your favourites, i.e. I have one which takes me directly to the Tips Page, then you will need to delete them and re-save.

How do I contact Genes - I can't see a Contact button. I want to complain. Why have the got rid of the time/date. I'm finding it difficult to work out if I should be reading up or down the list if potsiings were not 'today', especially as the page buttons are only at the top.

Please Genes! I CAN tell the time!

Edit: found it under the help button.

Re stars: the chosen few get a 5 pointed star, not your classical 6 pointed star of David.

Re GR's new time stamps - utterly hopeless. When I come on for the day, I normally go thru the boards of interest back to the last time I checked, but now it's just "yesterday" along with a whole slew of other posts. I don't see a way of determining which threads I've seen and which I've not seen.

If anyone knows of a way, I'm keen to hear it.

In the meantime, if you're still seeing real UK times, don't sign out or you'll just get the new rubbish - (5 minutes ago - 11 hours ago - today - yesterday, etc) when you sign back in.

mgnv,

The 'New Post' flag will tell you which threads have posts that you have not yet read.

I don't have a problem with dropping the date, in fact I prefer thew new way.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Nov 2010 06:26

I don't!

I like having the time of posting ........... not 1 hour, 60 minutes, or 4 hours

and just what is the difference between 60 minutes and 1 hour???

sylvia

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 20 Nov 2010 06:30

Each to his or her own, but it is no big deal either way. There are far more important things to worry about.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Nov 2010 06:39

IGP

true ......................... on this site there are far worse problems than the time

and then there is real life

It is noticeable that there has been far less activity on GR in the last 2 days

Kense

Kense Report 20 Nov 2010 10:15

"and just what is the difference between 60 minutes and 1 hour???"

Without knowing exactly how the software works but seeing one thread stay at 60 minutes for just five minutes, I would guess that 60 minutes means between 60 and 64 minutes and one hour means between 65 minutes and 119 minutes.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 20 Nov 2010 10:25

I reckon it changes at 60 minutes - no reason to program for 64 minutes, or whatever.

You won't see it change though, until you cause the page to refresh for whatever reason i.e. by moving around the website or pressing F5, so it may appear as though it has changed later.

Joy

Joy Report 20 Nov 2010 10:29

Leaving the timings as they were and adding number of viewings would have been better, in my opinion.

Half of my name has gone :-(
