Could it be that Cooloony was an estate that no longer exists? somewhere near Loughrea?

Galway would tie in with marriage in Loughrea.
Not having much experience with finding records in Ireland how can I establish birth place and get back a generation?

Definitely Galway - the link I provided above lists all the owners and ties in with the marriage certificate Lianne has.

There's a Collooney, Co. Sligo, Ireland.

That's great, thanks.
GR & Ancestry don't seem to have much info on George Welby & Catherine Corless. Georges father is Christopher Welby & Catherines Father is George Corless, both also listed servants.
Is there anyway of tracking where they worked and if they were all at the same place.

Yes the census list posted at the top is indeed them :-)

After their marriage they seem to move to England, for work I would think.

It's mentioned in this registration of deeds:

http://members.pcug.org.au/~nickred/deeds/memorial_search.cgi?my_memorial=114881

485a. A to E. Culiny o'wise Cooloony o'wise Castletown Liscoyle o'wise Liskele Killbegg & lands of Gorteen as pt of Drum o'wise (.....) and Corbane & lands of Knockanicorragh, Barony Longford, co Galway.

It appears to be a list of owners of the Cooloony (Culiny) estate.

(Did you try Google?)

Listed on a recently received marriage certificate, Residence of George Welby & bride Catherine Corless are both reported to be servants at Cooloony.
Does anyone know if this is a place, area or property??
The marriage took place on 11/6/1874 in the chapel of Laughrea, Galway, Ireland.
Thanks
