The following is a reply from a reverend Bob Horrocks who looks after St James church New Bury. In the family grave are my Grand father and Grandmother plus some other people that I am aware of but I do not know who is CROWTHER Hawarth or who is TONGE William Howarth 21.02.1939. Unfortunately I do not have a birth date for either of them and only a burial date for William Tonge. I am at a loss as to how to find any information on them as they are obviously after the 1911 census. Where can I start looking
Dear Brian
These are all the names in my records I'm afraid our records are simply burial records and contain no other information on relatives etc. Sorry.
CROWTHER Hawarth
CROWTHER Amanda Jayne 12.03.1979 Niece
TONGE Ada 3.12.1958 or 1953 Grandmother
CROWTHER Ronald 29.05.1956 Cousin
TONGE William Howarth 21.02.1939
CUFF Ada 4.04.1931 Step sister
TONGE Henry 13.10.1927 Grandfather

The death records on Ancestry should give you their ages at least - quite possibly dates of birth for the later ones. I am assuming this is in England/Wales?

That might help narrow them down a bit.

The name CROWTHER Hawarth

does not haveany dates with it and it does not seem to appear in any search of burials or births
and William Tonge appears so many times that I do not know which one is the one that I am looking for

Sorry folks. You are quite right. St james Church is in New Bury Near Fanworth Bolton Lancashire. Sorry, we locals think that everybody should know where it is. It may help if I tell you that the church was consecrated in 1865. That should help to narrow the search. I believe that grand-dad was the first occupant in 1927, but that is not set in stone. I have quizzed all my relatives and none of them can shed any light as to the two that I am trying to find information on.
Thanks for your help so far. Do you know a site that has Bolton/Farnworth burial records?

Thanks Choccy
That was a really big help because William was my uncle and Bessie was my mums eldest sister. So it seem that William may well have been a cousin of mine that was named after his dad. Now I have a starting point. Funny how families dont talk about the dead.

William Haworth Tonge (1871-1894) was one of the two sons of James Tonge (1846-1905) and Anne Haworth (1846-1874). He had a brother, Richard Henry Tonge (1872-1900). James remarried in 1877 to Ellen Morris. It was also her second marriage and she had a daughter, Elizabeth Alice Haslam by her first husband, Thomas Haslam (1849-1874). James and Ellen had 5 children but only two grew to adulthoos. One was my mother, Eva Tonge (1891-1942).
I am looking for information re James's grandfather, William Tonge, who must have been born round about 1780 and died some time after 1838. He was born in Halliwell. Joyce

Joyce,
You could click on Brian's name if you want to get in touch with him.
Or you could start a new thread of your own on William Tonge.
How do you know that he was born around 1780 in Halliwell, what children have you got for him and have you found him in 1841?

Joyce
You can have a look at my tree if you like but I cannot find any of these names in my tree.
Good hunting

My William Tonge is named on his son's marriage certificate as a Glazier. His son, James Tonge married Ann Edwards on 14 Oct 1838 at the Parish Church, Deane St. Mary. James was born in Halliwell in c1816 (data from censuses). I can't find b, m or d for William nor b for James. Most of the family seem to have been painters & decorators.

Old thread, Joyce

If you wish to try to contact Brian.....click on his name

But he has already said that the names you quote are not in his tree, so I doubt that there would be any point in so doing

If you want help......you should start your own thread, as advised last year

In case you aren't aware, there are NO Civil BMD records pre-1837. You need to look for Parish info
