Mt great grandfather x 3 was Edward Davis, and was born to Edward Davis (marriage record) in about 1820. (according to the 1841 census)

I can not get any further, I know he married twice, 1st Feb 1838 Jane Lester, St John Baptist church, they had a duaghter Mary Jane sometime after they both then died.

He married again Matilda Gough, 1842, st John the baptist church

Any help into the Davis ancestry would be greatly appreciated.

:-)

What was Edward's job?
I have been looking for them in 1851 to determine his birthplace, but Edward is not with Matilda who is with her widowed mother Elizabeth GOUGH in Bristol and has 6 years old Alfred DAVIS with her.
She says she is married, but I don't know enough about Edward to search for him.

he was a labourer and Matilda, married again. I just know that he had lived on old wells road, with Jane at one point, in glastonbury. He then died and was buried jan 15th 1845, and was buried at st john the baptist church.

He was possibly born in Clifton Mackrell, but this was just a theory so i am told by someojne on ancestry.com

I'm a bit confused here.....

Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate of Edward to Matilda?
The one I posted earlier is not in an area correct for a Glastonbury marriage.
That would be WELLS district.

It seems that the only record of him is in the 1841 Census

Have you made allowances for the fact that ages of people over the age of 15 were mostly rounded down to the nearest 5 on the 1841??

Some enumerators did not do it, but most did.

so someone aged 20 in 1841 would actually be aged 20 - 24

Therefore the birth year will range from 1817 to 1821.
