Just to ask, please.
Is this a bona fide subscription site that will give details from electoral registers, as everyone goes on about 'pay per view' but some members seem to be able to access details somewhere?
http://www.tracegenie.com/ukrollsc/erots/store.php?crn=180&rn=392&action=show_detail
Or has it been edited to show little information?
Thank-you.
(It took me some time to find the thread in question because I was looking in Find Ancestors for some inexplicable reason. I had forgotten the trans-gender couple from a previous problem thread)

SylviaInCanada Report 16 Aug 2012 06:46

actually, the relationship is even more tortuous

I want to find the phone number for the adopted son of the woman who married my grandfather, and then married another man who had a son that she adopted.

but I just know that you will find it for me <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

I love you all

patchem ........ I don't know!

I think some people might actually take out pay-per-view on 192.com, just so they can oneupmanship the rest of us, and give phone numbers to all these people who are looking to shock unsuspecting living rellies (or non-rellies, as the case maybe).

That UKroll.com website does look interesting - read the T&C which gives details of the other sites it uses.

It apparently allows you to access

*** the edited electoral roll in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010 and as such, certain individuals may have opted not to allow their details to be published. Similarly, certain individuals may have chosen not to register.

House price subscription data is compiled from data files from the Registers of Scotland and HM land Registry. Your subscription also includes access to England/Wales births, deaths and marriages data from 1984 on. We also provide you with access to a 2009 & 2007 UK company & Company Director file containing almost 13 million names, addresses and dates of birth*** (with a side bar that 2012 ER is also available)

The Company Director file probably only shows the registered address of the company. I think I've found that list for free on an internet search.

Sometimes I am glad that I have no blood relatives who want to know me. :-D

I may be ex-d but the telephone still rings from telesales despite my best efforts.

Mostly it's turned off though and only plugged in when we want to make a call.

dear Roy,

You may be amused to know that the makers of handmade shoes kept (and still do) extensive records of their clients going back before 1815 complete with accounts, shoe size etc etc. Many of these archives, going down from father to son, still exist Same again for suits, shirts and port accounts. There is nothing new in the credit crunch so craftsmen were careful to keep detailed records - sometimes the only realistic time to collect was harvest, or failing that probate. That is why it was difficult for young naval midshipmen to get ahead - poor credit risk so they could not raise the wind lol.

This is also the source of the old saying " a load of cobblers". Cordwainers made real shoes, cobblers the others (until mass manfd shoes got started).

Ay etc have not latched on to this yet. Also of course the descendents are often still alive and kicking so archive release would be poor business.

a) Wait and see if genes removes it, or not.
b) Start arguing.
Or b) before a)

Thanks Patchem. GR can remove it if they want to. I wasn't nasty or mean or abusive. I said what I said as plainly as I could but it was without malice as I'm not into posting like that . I suspect it was P who did it but he has had a go before.

Strange that the same people pop up regularly to tell us how awful we are being.

So long as you all keep loving me, I'll stay happy :-D

Off to do a hot choc and watch CSI.
