Has anyone noticed this with the new tree?

When I am adding a new person to my tree - or updating an existing one with new details I click on the 'save' button to ensure the new info/details are retained, but a few times now it has COPIED the details and then I get two almost identical records for the same person.

I have tried to replicate what I did but cannot work it out - now I just have to check the tree to make sure there aren't any 'spare' relatives

Mandy and Frank

You can look at your list of tree contacts by clicking on your own name at the top of the screen - where it says John Smith 500 Relations.

I didn't find this myself - GR told me!!

Porkie_Pie Report 18 Jul 2012 12:14

When you click on your name and the list appears i can only view the top half, their is a slide function to page up and down the list but it does not work and the only way i can see the bottom half of the list is to use the zoom out function on my browser

I am not complaining because i only use the old tree anyway and have actually removed my tree from GR due to all these ongoing problems,

Due to these so called improvements some members have lost their entire tree and have not backed them up independently so have lost years or work

Feedback facility isn't working on my tree!!

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 18 Jul 2012 14:43

It's not working on mine either. I sent my feedback via the Contact Us bit under Help. It worked because I had a very prompt reply.

Roy, I have just tested my slider, and it seems OK. Only a few of my contacts show, though, as the rest are on pages 2 and 3, which I haven't tried!

Old tree goes today. See Announcements

Simon Report 19 Jul 2012 12:48

What an absolute disaster! They say they've listened but I really don't think they wanted to know what we were saying. They say in the announcement that they want the Genes tree to be the best there is - all I can say is that the old tree certainly was the best in terms of ease of use for editing. This new thing they have is a nightmare to use.

I saw nothing "NEW" on the Announcements board.

Easy decision for me to make - I will NOT be renewing my membership, due in early August.

IMHO GR don't give a damn about what members want.

It's been fun. May see some of you on other boards :-D

Before the old-new tree was introduced, there were complaints that GR's version was out-dated.

They've tried to address this.

They are damned if they do and damned if they don't!

Why not purchase or download a different version onto your own computer and keep that as the 'Master', uploadiing it on a reqular bases. That way you can still use GR to search for records and use the other features of the site such as making contact with mutual descendents?

There are a number of commercial tree programmes available, either try-before-you-buy downloads, or as hard copy discs.

Off the top of my head
Family Historian
Family Tree Maker (published by Ancestry and including a sub)
Rootsmagic

Just do an internet search.

Similarly for free programmes
Family Tree Builder
https://www.familysearch.org/ used to do one called PAF but I can't find a link.

These options have been discussed frequently on this board - I'll see if I can find some of the links

EDIT - a recent thread

I don't have a problem with GR working on a "new" tree. I have a problem with them giving us no choice but to use this tree, that has many problems! I wouldn't buy anything in a shop that is broken, and I won't pay for this un-usable tree!

I have another tree on software. It is at least three times the size of my GR one, because I don't put living people on the GR tree.

I've made contact with many "cousins" all over the world (on other sites, as well as GR) and doubt I'll find any more.

So when my subs are due, I'm saying goodbye, and so is my tree, 19,000+ names. As well as contacting relatives, I've helped many people over the seven years I have been a member (before I get jumped on, the help has NOT been on the boards).

So if you have any rellies from East Lothian, there's a good chance we're related lol :-D contact me before 22 August. :-D

Hi Scozz, it would be a big help if you could email me with full details of all the problems you are having with the new tree. Please let me know what isn't working properly for you and please also let me know how you think we could make it better. Please send this to [email protected]. I will certainly discuss any suggestions you have with the tree team.

Kind regards,

Estelle

Well looks like the phantom RR'er has struck again. :-P

There was nothing wrong with the post and whoever did this you should be ashamed of yourself.

Hi Estelle,

Can you tell me why you have removed the old version of the tree?? it seems you have lots of dissatisfied members on GR. I sent feedback...now it's working... earlier today. What Jennie Annie said is correct, I've had the same problem, adding details & duplications occurring.
It would also be nice if we had the option of a pedigree view, so we can add cousin marriages.....and before you tell me to upload a ged com, the tree I have here is different to the one I have on Ancestry & I would like to keep it that way!!

On the new tree I can't view a persons 'Matches Found' I just get a 'cllick' and a strange little yellow star icon. I'm using the latest version of Internet Explorer on Windows 7.
Never had this problem on the old tree.
Have sent GR a message on the Feedback facility.

Sonya

Sonya Report 22 Jul 2012 14:01

I, too, would like the facility to merge individuals, having numerous marriages between first cousins on my tree. The biggest problem I have is information not being transferred from the old tree to the new tree. Baptism dates are a good example of this. I have previously provided feedback to GR about both issues.
