I had problems with the new tree so contacted GR. Within 48 hours they advised me how to solve the problems. So far everything is working ok. Initially I planned to shift to another site but now I am happy to stay. May I suggest that all those with problems contact GR and get help.

I have a long list of names to add to my tree.

Not doing it until things are sorted.

I'll make sure to put the list somewhere safe, so I can maybe add them to my tree next year. :-P

BasketmakersHawkersTinsmiths - Since the withdrawal of the 'old' tree and invitations to view the Beta version, Estelle and Phil Moir have been reading and posting on the discussion threads, but continue to ask that the feedback or contact us button should also be used. Even if you get a generic reply, comments are passed to the production team as it helps them build up an overall picture.

Comments about the Beta site should be sent to
[email protected]

The Boards are not actively moderated, but posts Requested for Review are responded to.

Phil and Estelle (possibly other employees) do occassionally look at the Boards at other times, assuming they are not otherwise occupied.
You can spot a GR employee, if they post, as they have a golden star next to their board name.

By the way, I am not a GR employee, just someone who spends too much time on the Community Boards! :-D

Stephen, if you click on your name at the top of the tree page it should give you a paged list of all the trees you have access to.

Just to the right of your name is a box that says view other trees but that tends to be obscured by the search box.

I will simply refuse to enter any new names on the new version. I've also noticed I no longer have a pull down menu of all the trees I have access to on the new tree. Probably wont renew my membership next March, I'll move over to Ancestry.

According to my tree I now have an Irish man born in1827 married to my Mum and I am their son.

Is this what GR consider progress.

I have reported the problems to GR I suggest everybody else does the same.

If this is not resolved in the next couple of days then I shant use this site and will be demanding a full refund!! :-(

BasketmakersHawkersTinsmiths Report 22 Jul 2012 09:55

I use Google chrome and The tree still doesn't work for me. It's really putting me off researching, as i only do it at the weekends and the fault with Genes has to make me do Trople the work load.

When i do my research I update my tree on both websites Genes & Ancestry at the same time. Ancestry will take my Five minutes to record info and Genes takes Fifteen, It's really off putting.

Can someone answer this Question, Apart from the Mods on this site Does anyone that actualy works on Genes read these Message boards?

Garry :-(

Awful what a mess, I have just added a child born in 1854 and it wanted to know if the mother was my mother. Numerous duplicated names as others have mentioned.

Totally agree with you Porkie Pie and everyone else who hates the new tree - only trouble is they have now withdrawn the old tree - suggest more people complain as I have - there are too many things going wrong - its a shambles!!!!!!!!! Its a pity GU don't listen when we say we prefer the old tree!!!

CarldeHynton Report 21 Jul 2012 16:15

The new tree is simply not working.
I'm getting replicating people
I'm losing data all together
Sections of my tree are just disappearing, only to reappear later
Today I searched for my own name - it couldn't find me!
I'm so worried that I am going to lose years of hard research that I'm backing up to GEDCOM and keeping local copies of my data in family tree builder http://www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builder
If this isn't sorted soon, I'm going to migrate everything elsewhere and demand a refund of my money.
I HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN GENES REUNITED :-|

When you are on the home page and click on Family tree, The tree opens in another window separate to the home page,

So the home page is still their and when you close the window with your tree, you should still see the homepage,

you can change between the two by using the minimize - button top right corner of your browser

depending on your operating system restoring the minimized page can differ

**Just to let you know**

I had a PM from a member and this is what The Person Said to me....

Hi

yep - i added 8 siblings - who then morphed into 24 - and their gt grandparents disappeared - will not be doing anything for now with this damned awful new tree.

ps
Have you worked out how to get back from tree to home page?

This really has to be looked at........

BasketmakersHawkersTinsmiths Report 21 Jul 2012 00:06

Estelle....

The new Tree does not work!!! It loads new names twice,Three & Four times in a row, When you also add a Child to a family, it only attaches the child to one parent.

I use Genes as my Primary Tree and I keep all of my notes and refferences on here, I also use Ancestry & Find my past, but I am now feeling let down by the site as it takes up so much of my time to correct "Genes" Mistakes.

As Marjorie said....If it's not broke, then don't fix it.
