Many thanks, Karen. Will have a look tonight and hopefully someone will dig them out of other censuses,

6 Bailey St is right in the middle of the shops in Miskin. Right at bottom of hill below Arthur St. Think Llanwonno must have been the parish in those days, as Llanwonno village is up on the mountain and is only a pub, a church and a few scattered houses.

Many thanks, Ann.

Had a quick look at FreeBMD last night. Do you think William J THOMAS born c1867 Llanwonno (probably Miskin) was the eldest child of John and Hannah THOMAS?

There is a birth of a William James in June 1865 Q. And possible marriages in 1864 to Hannah JONES and Hannah DAVIES. Also noticed a Hannah HARRIS, but looks unlikley.

thanks ann and john i do think william j is eldest son of john and hannah
but to complecate matters there youngest daughter hannah thomas who was born sept 1891 doesn't show on any census in wales but goes to america in 1906 as a nurse and gets married in america in 1908 in scranton i have census and marriage and death certs for her,her parents are john thomas and hannah morgan i havnt found there marriage either,i know this is fact as a great aunt said she was a sister to david (thomas) thomas b 1876 as she lived with her for a while in america, it seems they changed there names making it a real headache to find them.
thankyou for sharing my brick wall

Ann, I had "intelligent but erratic" on an early report. We don't change, do we. :-)

Have just thought of something to do when I retire next year - do some research in Ponty Library. Bad news today about the new Taff Vale complex in Ponty - developer in administration. :-( :-(

Karen

Have got some holiday at end of November. If you pm me (or put it on this thread), say 3rd week in November, with a list of what you are looking for, I would be quite happy to spend a couple of half days there. I can then gaze across at this ruin that used to be the Taff Vale shopping centre - quite a worry for Ponty methinks as the new shopping centre was meant to be the "flagship" of the town re-development.
