Here is what I would think is William H's birth registration:

Births Sep 1880

THOMPSON William Henry Merthyr T 11a 432

so i need to look at the 1871 census and see if mary is with this family...thankyou for pointing this out...

Jennifer

Jennifer Report 12 Oct 2012 16:55

oh yes very true...thankyou, i was hoping she was married and her married name was thompson and possible that william h is her son and that maybe she is living with her inlaws? all sounds alot of ifs but not being able to find william henrys birth after years of searching i am clutching at straws and also getting myself in a right muddle...as i have said above i have his parents names as mary and alfred?

The most probable explanation for Mary b1864 being missing from the 1891 census is that by then she was probably married.

this is also to do with the same person in the 1911 census i think?

Hi...I would appreciate anyones helps with finding someone on a census. This is related to the person i have been trying to find above and because he is proving impossible to find i thought i would try a different angle. I have found this census with the family i think could be the william h thompson i am looking for?

1881
Henry Thompson...Head 44 (1837) umbrella maker...devon, exeter
Susanna Thompson...Wife 35 (1846) Tredegar,
Mary Thompson...daughter 17 (1864) Glamorgan,Merthyr
William H Thompson...grandson....9months Glamorgan, Merthyr
Elizabeth A Pretten...servant......7 (1874)..........................Tredegar
Francis T Stait....border....44(1837) married,,,baker Alderton, worcestershire

I then tried the 1891 census which showed Henry and Susanna with William aged 10 but no daughter Mary (there is a Mary but she is the mother aged 74). I also tried looking for her and william then in the 1901 census but no luck. I am still only learning the best way to do lookups so it would be great is anyone could help me...thankyou.

So you don't want any help to look for him?

Jennifer

Jennifer Report 13 Sep 2012 23:56

I cant find his birth anywhere even though it says an actual date on his army records..and can only find him on the 1911 census and i have his parents name from his army records? but there seems to be a difference in his age from his marriage and the other certificate i have? I have had help over the years on and off by members of GR to try and find him but with no luck...i just wanted to see if anyone else had come across a wrong place of birth being written down on army records so maybe i can try once more and find him? dont hold my breath though...thankyou

The obvious answer is to look for him on a census..............

I'm guessing you know the names of his parents.................

Porkie_Pie Report 13 Sep 2012 21:31

Have you looked for his birth record? or found him on any census?

I always believed my dad was born in Yorkshire until i started doing my tree and could not find his birth registered in Yorkshire,

He was born in Nottinghamshire,

Thankyou Kath, it says on there as well the names of two children which are also correct so i would like to think it is him, too much of a coincidence dont you think?

My grandad's army record says he was born in Stranton, Co. Durham in the north which is where he grew up, but he was actually born in London. I don't think he knew at the time that he had been born in London, but I know he found out later because he sent off to a church in London for his baptism certificate.

Thankyou yes that is a possibilty...although his children say he was from scotland but they were all born in cardiff...frustrating!
