All burial records for the Royal Borough of Greenwich in South East London will be online by the middle of October 2012 with much data already available (see below). There are five cemeteries in the Borough:

Charlton Cemetery, opened 1855
Eltham Cemetery, opened 1935
Greenwich Cemetery, opened 1856
(Records for the period 1902 - 2000 are currently available and the remainder will be added shortly.)

Plumstead Cemetery, opened 1890
Woolwich Cemetery, opened 1856
Data for Woolwich (1856) cemetery will be added over the next month or so.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich Council have requested that the addresses of the deceased not be shown in burial register records for the last 15 years.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 30 Sep 2012 14:58

THANK YOU SO MUCH . I have spent some penny's and taken a look and found several of my family. Dad was cremated at Eltham Crematorium in 1975 . my bros father in law who was in the ministry took the committal. When mum died in 1980 she wanted to be with dad .
The FIL came out of retirement and came up from the West Country to do the committal again and it was said he pulled some strings and arranged for mums ashes to be with dads. Well the register does confirm this ,cross ref it to dads resting place. Made me feel all over again the sadness of losing them BUT a good feeling that she was with him as she wanted.

I di find too my elder bros grave, he died in 1931 aged 3 months and we used to go up to Charlton cemetery and visit his grave . he is in with 5 others and the first ,he was!, and the 3rd and the last one buriedwere able to have headstones . this was confirmed again with the burial records.

All spent out now but well worth it .

Glad you were able to confirm various commitals - one I'd purchased was for OH's grandmother, who my father in law had made arrangements for. For some reason, his middle name is down incorrectly - even he (still living) can't understand why!

It would be good if they had a subscription - depending on the cost I'd be up for it

Why can't I find the burial/cremation record of the person I'm looking for?

The date of the burial or cremation may be outside the range you have specified. Try widening the date range or, if the name is uncommon, try clearing both the "from year" and "to year" fields to display all dates.

You may have spelled the name incorrectly. If you are not sure about the exact spelling, try using "wild card" characters in the name (Help on using wild cards is here). A simple example of a useful wild card character % is searching for "R%ckw%d" in the surname. As % matches to any number of any characters, this will find the following variations, among others, where they exist in the database:

Rickwood, Rockword, Rickward, Ruckwald, Rackweed, and even Rollockwound.
And "%Rickwood" will find the name anywhere in the surname entry, for example in
"Smith Nee Rickwood".

If the surname is uncommon, try searching with the forename blank, to match all forenames.

There may have been an index transcription error. While we take great care to maximise accuracy, very occasionally an error may occur when the register entry index information is transcribed, leading to the name not being found on searching.
The original entry in the register may have been incorrect, in which case we will notify the authority supplying the records.

Plumstead Cemetery, Wickham Lane, spanned the period June 1890 to December 2000.

Margaret.
Our elder sister died in 2002 and is buried with her hubby in Plumstead Cemetery , Whilst her hubby shows together with the fact his brothers ashes are interred the same grave in 1992 , Sis doesnt show,so they arent showing all records o far

2002 is outside to the declared time span, but presumably Margaret's grandparents died before then..... unless she is younger than we assume ???

It is irritating when something doesn't do 'what is says on the tin'. Never-the-less I've been able to find many twigs to record their date of death. If our numbers come up on the lottery, then the images would/could be quite informative.

Try contacting Deceasedonline, and see if they can explain. I wonder if the register has been damaged and unfit for production....or lost?

When you get the search results, there is this above the list on names

We have also found 21 headstone collections containing xxxxxx

No idea if Plumstead have had the headstones photoed, but is it worth checking on the site?
