Worse than not opening messages is people reading, but not replying. I find that very frustrating. Bob

This is an old problem.

People leave the site and never remove their trees, people die and the family cannot access the tree (or do not want to through lack of interest)

I would imagine that also there are 100's of trees on here with less than 10 people on. And probably many many more where people just never come back.

And as you have said, it does appear that the boards are quieter these days. I think the teething problems with the new tree really put a lot of people off.

Last year I contacted 15 people when I found out eventually about one of my g/grandfathers, let me tell you that almost a year later not one of them has ever replied and I know that at least 5 of them actually opened my messages.

It is really down to luck these days whether or not you get a reply. :-)

Thank for your reply Kath - yes I did think about change of email address as I know genes contact you by email to let you know there is a message on genes for you so perhaps that is the case with these contacts. Hopefully they will soon check their genes messages. Best wishes - kate

I haven't had the same problem but do you think it could be that people are coming onto Genes much less frequently than they used to. If they have changed their email address in the meantime without letting Genes know then they wouldn't know there was a message for them until the next time they log on.

I find the boards much slower and quieter than they used to be.

Hope your messages are opened soon.

Hi - I wondered if anyone else is having the same problem as I am recently. I have sent messages to 5 different new contacts on genes and not one of them has been opened by the contact. I have not experienced this much before as most people reply quite quickly and it seems strange that as many as five have'nt even looked at the message?! Anyone else got the same problem? thanks -kate
