It was a Bank Holiday Monday here in the West of Scotland yesterday!
I don't think it would have affected GR though. LOL

Postings 27 September re members offering lookups and then asking for payment for further information.

Can something be added to the information for new posters that any such request should be reported as being against T&Cs.

------------

I wonder what the reaction from GR will be?

Agree, Sylvia.

Potty

Sally also gave me the name

I wasn't sure whether that person was still around or not.

As they are no longer posting, then there is nothing we can do, but hope that others did not pay!

Potty

Potty Report 28 Sep 2013 14:52

Sally has PM'd me the name of the poster, who no longer posts.

Whoever wanted paying for information should really be reported to GR and hopefully banned. Most people, Sally, are happy to help or to help you to help yourself by pointing you in the right direction.

Potty Report 28 Sep 2013 12:42

Sally, was this on a thread that offered lookups? In that case, it was definitely wrong! Is this person still offering lookups or helping on the boards. If so, could you PM me their board name?

I am pretty sure that none of the regular helpers would ever think of asking for money. In fact, some spend there own money to help and I don't just mean that they have subscriptions to other sites, some will use credits on pay-to-view sites (eg scotlandspeople). I do myself use the odd SP's credit to look up a results lists but some helpers will look at the image as well.

Thanks, Persie!

you are quite right ............. it IS a case of name and shame.

In fact, I think it would be against GR's T&Cs!

Sally or anyone that gets that sort of request from someone let us know on the boards... it is definitely a case of name and shame not almost a case...

This is all about us helping each other and if you know where to look there are other places that will help you and the help is given freely and happily.

wow, Sally

That is not on!!

None of us charge for giving information to others, even when we are using sites for which we have paid a sub.

Thats almost a case for "name and shame"!

turning this on its headlast year I asked a person on here who did look ups on a crtain thread if they could give me info on a rellie

they gave me a snippet and asked for money if I wanted more

I asked another helper if it cost to look up these records and they said it was free

I haven't noticed any professional researchers recently, but back in March i did spot this.
Not a researcher, but I felt that this may be a journalist looking for a story ?
The timing of this post was just too much of a coincidence

2 posts only by this user but I dont know how to look for the other one?

A simple answer would be "Yes"

Not seen any recent activity to suggest that a professional researcher is currently about but they could have changed their board name to avoid being spotted

One or two members do take advantage of the helpers - same type of request wanting info from one database on Ancestry - sometimes I help and other times ignore those request.

Sure other helpers will have their own opinions on this.

Just read these posts with a lot of disappointment. I havent been active here for a while but never realised that 'professionals' had others doing their work for them.
I didnt think I was naive until now.
