Hi, I have discovered that one of my ancestors was a printer in 1887 in London. I would like to find out where he worked, ie newspapers, but don't know how to find this out. Has anyone got any suggestions for me. Thanks Pat

His name was:
Jacob Taylor and he was an employee. I'm not two sure when he was born but probably between 1860 - 70

Sorry I forgot to say that the document that states his profession I found on his daughter's marriage certificate.

As an employee he could have worked for many different companies during his working life.

From Newpapers, to book printers, to a myriad of other print firms.

I personally have a few 'printers' in my family and they moved about a bit (albeit in London) so I would imagine that they often moved with the work to be found.

Even in the newspapers, there were jobbing printers (rather like journeymen in other trades) who were employed by the day or week.

I think unless you are very lucky, you will have a job on your hands tying down where he worked.

There are archives about the London College of printing. There was a museum at one point.

Is this him but older than you thought?
