Hi LadyKiri, I'm so grateful for all the information you have given me and all the advice and tips to carry on with my research. You must have spent a lot of time on this but it has been and will continue to be, most helpful. I will keep you updated as to my findings.
Many thanks

ok sorry if I am not clear.

Mel posted a possible marriage to Patience Hamon Rogers.
I cannot find any other possible records for her or other Hamon Rogers, It does not mean they are not there. It means I have not found them
Marie has but I has not posted them. I did spot a Hammond Rogers though,

The next thing to remember is that education was not so good and people spelt things as they heard them. The bride getting married would not know if her name was wrong if she could not read it. Accents would also be a problem. You then have the problem of of people transcribing records and not being able to read it. Some of the records are very faint and some are damaged and only partly legible. just say Hamon and Hayman and see if you can tell the difference.

As I mentioned someone on Ancestry has this family and they have recorded her as being London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 about Patrence Hayman
Name: Patrence Hayman
[Patience Hayman]
Baptism Date: 13 Apr 1800
Parish: St Anne, Limehouse
County: Middlesex
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Parent(s): James Hayman, -ropemaker
Susanna Hayman
Record Type: Baptism
Register Type: Parish Register

I do not know why they have done this. If you join can contact them to ask them.

A suggested explanation of this would be if she was born Patience Hamon and married a Rogers whose fate we do not know before marrying Thomas Taylor. However I have not found proof of this.

For me the next step would be to continue mapping out the descendants of Thomas and Patience and seeing if there are any other occurences of the name within the family. I would find census baptisms and mariages and deaths and compare addresses. Take it a little at a time and record it all and your sources. Look at other trees but do not take your research from them as they could be wrong.

Thanks so much for all the information LadyKira. It's a lot to digest and I can see I will need to prescribe to ancestry as it looks like they have far more info than this site.
In one of your posts you say that Patience' marriage to Thomas may have been her second marriage but I'm not following you there. Also could the baptism for her really be her, as it cites her name as being "Hayman" and not Hamon. Could be a spelling mistake? But where did the name of Rogers come from.
A post from Mare Celeste says that there is a whole family of Hamon Rogers but can't find anything on here to suggest that. Thanks for all your help

I have also just noticed both Thomas and Patience and Thomas and Jane have sons Robert born 1829 so above Robert could belong to either set.

If the above is his baptism this could be his parents and siblings. The parish is the same.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any info with regards to Patience Harmon Rogers on this site. I'm interested in her name as it is unusual and wondering if it is a double barrelled name which I think would have been unusual for this time. With regards to where she was buried it's rather strange as when a child I lived just a stones throw away from Victoria Park. I'm sure the cemetery isn't there now.
Maria thanks for your post. Are you saying that the marriage of Thomas and Patience may not be pertaining to my ancestors or just that it's an unusual name to research. Thanks. Any more info would be gratefully received as I have hit a brick wall.

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 11 Oct 2013 21:56

The marriage I pointed out was what someone else has recorded on their tree.
I have not seen evidence either way as to the accuracy.
The Patricia Hamon Rogers banns was the only one I found of that name.
Could you post any you found MC please?

Patricia

Patricia Report 11 Oct 2013 20:05

Thanks LadyKira. I'm not sure how to research there marriage as I believe it would have taken place before the records began. Any ideas please.

Hi Patricia, I think it was the other way around - born Patience Hayman, married a Taylor and died as Patience Taylor.

Personally, I think that Patience Hamon Rogers marriage to Thomas James Taylor that Mel posted needs investigating further. There seems to be a whole family called Hamon Rogers.

Patricia

Patricia Report 10 Oct 2013 22:05

Is that her LadyKira?
How to Patience Taylor become Patience Hayman. Sorry but I'm not following.
Thanks :-(

A tree on Ancestry cites this babtism. It is possible that her marriage to Thomas was a second marriage.
