Does anyone have a subscription with findmypast, or anyware else, which enables them to search for a divorce. Help appreciated. Many thanks, Pat.

Have you looked on the National Archives site? free to search but pay if you find anything, although i dont know the timescale you are searching

records are from 1858 to 1937
i found two of my ancestors records from 1870 &1890.you might get some reply stating divorces were only for the very rich, not always true mine were certainly not rich.The records i found had a total of 12 pages each, fascinating reading

I think the National Archives website has some divorces but I think they are ones from quite some time ago (I'm afraid I find it impossible to find my way round the National Archives website so haven't used it myself).

For more recent (20th century) divorces you can contact this address:-

Principal Registry of the Family Division
First Avenue House
42-49 High Holborn
London
WC1V 6NP

They will do a 10 year check for you (not sure how much it costs) but if they don't find anything you do not get your money back.

Thank you all for your advice on searching for a divorce.. It would have been between 1939 and 1950. It`s because I found them together in 1939, and she remarried in 1950, but her first husband did not die until 1960. So I`m guessing that they may have divorced, or maybe not, maybe a bigamist in the family. Wow!
