the Todmorden site is very useful (use the search facility on the home page)

also ancestry has quite a lot of parish records for the area

Annals of Todmorden is a book I bought when I stated researching ancestors in the Todmorden area.

Wills were also very useful

where do you find these records
you are so good at it
I have a lot of family from Heptonstall, Luddenden and nearby and find what info I can on goggle. The best I found was the Church Inscriptions at Heptonstall , but nothing much for Luddenden

Todmorden Turnpkie roads - Meeting at Wm Patchett's, Hebden Bridge. Stones to be got at Nellcote and Castle Street for use on the road at Woodmill.

28 Nov 1808
resolved at a vestry meeting that a band of music be procured to attend at Saml Harrison's on the Thursday following when the names of all such persons will be taken as are mindful to serve their King and country as volunteers in the local militia and that all the expenses will be paid out of the poor's-rate.

The Volunteers were groups of men, recruited locally, who were available to go and fight if required.

The modern equivalent is The Territorial Army.
