	Occupations are sometimes noted on childrens christening records after 1812. Andy

	It is worth searching the National Archives to see if there is a will. http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1259939 If there is then it should be possible to download it for about £3.50 and that will tell you your ancestor's occupation and probably that of some other relatives.

	Some vicars added notes to the baptism register even before being required to do so on the new forms after 1812. This week in a Record Office I saw a filmed copy of a register from 1750s and the vicar had noted the father's occupation... a thatcher, a farmer, a labourer etc. Gwyn
