I started my family tree some years ago on this site but haven't got very far, however, now I have retired I intend to really get on with it and also do my Husband's tree.
I have asked for some geneology software for Christmas so my questions are;

1. Can anyone recomend some software that is easy to use? I have seen some but, of course, you don't get to see it working until you've bought it.

2. Can I do two separate trees on one piece of software or will I need to get two?

Many thanks
Irene :-)

I use my old 2005 version of Family tree maker and yes you can use it for multiple trees i think the latest version is FTM2012

Welcome back Irene.

I'd look for what's available on Amazon and see what you can find out about the individual programs.

Pick a program and Google it followed by reviews and you should get some pages come up for that.

I'll be looking for something myself next year so hope you find one that works for you.

Thank you both for that advice.
It's good to know that I can put multiple trees on one piece of software.
I have been looking but have been unable to choose so I will check the reviews too.
I see that there are some that give a free trial to ancestry, that might be helpfull.

if you're quick and you live in the UK you can buy a copy of Family Tree Maker 2011 World Edition for just £22 including postage at Amazon.co.uk - and since it comes with a free 6 month World membership to Ancestry.co.uk worth £77 it has to be the bargain of the year

Thanks Pam.
I've just looked but I seem to have missed the boat. The version with world ancestry is £60 odd. I've just been looking and I see that the premium membership gives access to Irish records and that would be very helpfull. I will need access to America but perhaps I can wait a while for that.
Anyway thanks for letting me know, it certainly would have been the bargain of the year.
