There is a Durham Light Infantry Museum In Durham City , But records are kept next door at Durham County Record Office The Museum + Record Office are a short ride from city itself or a 15 minute walk The staff at both offices are very helpful ,the record office is very family history orientated. I seem to remember the record office opens Tuesday to Thursday 9am--4pm. I should book a n appointment if possible Regards BobB.

Some WW1 records can be found, more (I think) than 30%. I found a fair number of images of a cousin's service from 1914 to 1922. Also, to the best of my knowledge, efforts are being made, using modern techniques, to restore others. The bulk of the damage to WW 1 records was made by water, not fire, so it may be that others will become available.

Thanks everyone, I did of course mean DLI, not DVLI, sorry for the mistake, LOL. My father did fight in WW2, so I will checkout all the information you have given me, Thanks again, Theresa.

You can apply for your father's service records if you are his next of kin. They will cost £30.00, and take several months to arrive. However, if his widow is living, she can apply, and will not have to pay for them

Theresa, What is DVLA? I understand it to be Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency

Army records for WW1 are on Ancestry but only abt 30% survive you can access soldiers records from abt 1920 onwards

Did he fight in WW2? I know for sure these records can be accessed by NOK. If his spouse, I think they are free, but others - such as yourself - have to pay.
I suggest you change your heading to 'military records' - it looks like you are asking about driving licences/car tax!!

Does anyone know where the millitary records for the disbanded Durham Light Infantry are held, also, will I be able to see my fathers millitary records. Someone told me they are confidential, but as he is deceased why wouldnt I be able to see them.
