I'm currently a standard member. If I upgrade to platinum will I be able to access articles in the newspaper archive? I'm spending a fortune on credits!

Or look at the info about the upgraded membership which should tell you what it includes

The upgrade notes don't mention it and I'd hate to pay the extra to find myself no better off. Thanks for replying though, I'll email GR. :-)

Nope. They don't. I have a Platinum which runs out towards the end of July next year. If I was to purchase Newpaper Archive Records it would cost me £27.15 pro-rata (I think) from £39.95.

I found something on the very first name I input and a very kind GR member sent me the image.

Ah. Now that might make me reconsider my level of subs on here to allow me to go elsewhere when it expires.

I know FMP is more expensive, but at least everything is included, should you ever need it

Trouble is Jax, although I could use more records now, I'm put off some aspects of Ancestry because of these fictitious trees that are being created on there. I wonder fi this makes the people who sub to it, less serious about things than I get from the people who contribute on GR. Isn't there one site which limits the searching/names you can do in an effort to stop 'professionals'? Although there are in theory limits on GR too, it's nowhere near what I use. Still. Not something I need to worry about before the summer :-D

I have both anyway...you can build a tree on FMP (Not that I have) but dont know if you can view others?

Do not be put off Ancestry because of the duff trees, in the main most are well researched.

The duff trees often are created when someone gets lots of 'hints' and does not want to add them to their tree so will create a 2nd/3rd etc. tree.

The best thing with Ancestry is that you can make your tree Private and therefore you can be very selective about who you give access to (like on here). And it looks good on the screen and is so easy to use.

You get wise very quickly to the trees which are u/s on there.

It is well worth a go.

I know that of the 10 trees I have access to all but 1 are correct and I have told the odd one and provided documentary evidence to no avail, but that is in the US.. nuff said.

Just been looking at one on Ancestry that has followed back from my 3x gt grandparents, what a complete load of rubbish....yep they are from the US, where they must think that all our counties are about a mile away from each other :-)

Sorry Jax. I was referring to my moving my Platinum sub from GR to another site and using that particular aspect which will play a part in my decision. You see I like GR with all it's lesser points.

I am hoping that on offer similar to the free 1911 census one will be made for the Newspapers. Then I can see some really late nights :-D :-D :-D
