Have just found this new section on Ancestry. Covers Birmingham and North Warwickshire.

Will be a gold mine for me as have a lot of family in this area.

Yes, saw that earlier, but didn´t bother to look because I have found that generally, Ancestry Warwickshire records don´t include anything for Birmingham.
Must go back & take a look.

This DOES cover Birmingham. I got a huge job on my hands now. I'll have to check my tree virtually person by person over about 6 generations!

Out of interest - is it searchable by address only or by name too?

By name & I think by address although haven´t tried that.
Have found several of mine, but some more obvious ones are not there.....not sure if it was because they weren´t eligible to vote or what the critera for eligibility was.
For instance, have found my father in 1950 when he was lodging with his parents but not in 1955 when he was a householder & not before between when he was 21 & 1950.
Also found my grandfather in 1955 even though he died in 1954, but can´t find him between his arrival in Birmingham in 1928 & the 1955 entry.
Obviously the lists were compiled sometime in advance of the electoral year which explains why grandad appeared after he died.
Worth a look, but no information apart from the address.

Lpoks like the records have been scanned by a computer. There are a lot of weird spellings so will need to search using wildcards etc.

Early records are quite sparse as there was a property qualification so only a few people entitled to vote.

It is possible to search by street name in later records.

Glad to know you're okay Jan. Sent the message on 5th and then another on 7th as that book about Warwickshire arrived - the one I found in a bookshop in US.

Mind I've only looked briefly at it but probably going to be useful to us both and for any 'local' enquiries on here.

R and I are heading over to the house in a few mins to get the contract signed. Then back and I can't decide if some family tree, some crafting or just going and snuggling in bed with a craft magazine. R and I haven't stopped since you saw us. We are both so tired but very, very glad to have finished. Now we have to pay attention to the neglected place we actually live in.

Yes please to a meet-up. It's going to take me a while to get my stuff for Birmingham in order to do any decent searching so we could have a 'Find Harry Day' if you wanted.

Jog my memory about him now if you want.

Might go for a new thread rather than hijack this one. But I think Harry is a lost cause to be honest! He is rather complicated and I have searched every inch of the internet for him.
Will check out emails, not sure what happened there!
