All i have is the Maiden name of Garner married to a Cooper. They had 2 children, Maureen in 1935 and Gordon in 1937. In Edmonton area Middlesex.

Thankyou

Jo

Where did you find the births? If on Freebmd, you can also look for a marriage using the surnames.
If there are too many you will need a child's birth cert, unless you can find another member who has the family in their tree - use search box above to check.

There are 4 possibles on FreeBMD, (1930-1935) in Rugby, Dover, Wandsworth and Poplar. If you know either of the first names, you should be able to pick the right one.

You should look on FreeBMD first, the records on here are only a copy (not a good one by the sound of it) of FreeBMD.

Why pay for records which are FREE!!!!!

Marriages

First surname Cooper
2nd surname Garner

date ranges 1933 - 1938 (before birth of 1st child and 1 year after birth of 2nd)

5 possible marriages came up including 1 in Poplar which is in all likelyhood your couple.

Will not put details on here, you need to get used to using FreeBMD for yourself.

FreeBMD is one of my favourite sites to use. Probably because it's the simplest. I can't cope with complicated so simple suits me. :-S :-S

Thank you all.
I looked on BMD there are a few. Bit hard to see which is right as i dont have no first names.
I'm doing my Boyfriends family tree and he has no names either.
Have come across something else that is puzzling us abit.
Found a birth for a Terence A Garner, maiden name also Garner, 1931 in Edmonton also, so dont know if connected or not to Gordon and Maureen. Maureen is my Boyfriends mum.

When a mother's maiden name is shown as the same as the child, it means one of two things.

That the mother married someone of the same name or more usually, that the mother was not married.

I think you are going to have to buy Maureen's birth certificate. That will have her mother's full name and hopefully, her father's as well.

Then you can find the right marriage and that certificate will give you their parents' names. By then you will probably be far enough back to start using census forms.

Does Maureen have a brother called Terrence? I guess it could be that easy! Have you asked her?

Does your Fella really not know his grandparents names? Needs his mothers marriage cert then

Darealjolo Report 18 Nov 2012 21:40

My boyfriend never knew his grandparents, they passed away before he was born, that is why we dont have much information to go on. Maureen has passed away also.
I did think maybe the mum was not married yet which is why surname is the same.
Thankyou everyone.

Is Gordon alive?

Bear in mind that the mother may have been married previously......

Buying Maureen's birth cert would be the most sensible - and productive - step,

Gordon is alive and we have now got the names we were looking for :))
