My sincere apologies Chris Ho:)

I've only just realised that I didn't thank you for the 'Search Info" above. Haven't been on the Comp. of late as we're getting ready to pop over to Aust. for a holiday.

I'm very grateful for all your help, thank you very much.

Kiwi Joy.

On GR 1891 under the Search box at bottom is written 'Search by Reference', then you get asked the below...

Folio
Page Number
Piece Number

(from 1891 posted earlier, you see the below, just add them in)
Piece: 4193

put that info in the search screen boxes.

All the sites use the same refences

Hi Chris Ho

Well I don't know how you did it, but I typed "Nevies" in again and it went straight to my William "Vevers 1891".

Honestly, when I think how frustrated I was getting, knowing that William and his family were under "Nevies" and Genes kept saying that there was no such person...

Can you explain to me what you mean be "Using Reference Search"?

Thank you ever so much for all your help. I'm now going to print it off and keep it with the other Vevers!

Cheers.

Gosh you have been busy whilst I've been asleep... Thank you Chris Ho and Choccy for all that information,

Bridget, was definitely the mother of Richard, as I have his Birth Cert.

I don't think Sarah and William were together long as she died in 1892. (Have her Death Cert.) Then Richard died the year after that.

Did you find Vevers on 1891 Census on Genes, as I couldn't find it on there at all?

Mary Vevers b. 1891 to Margaret & William. I can't find her birth. I've tried Scotland, as Margaret was Scottish, no luck there though. The last time I found her was on the 1911 Census, as above. Looked under Marriages, Deaths etc. Have either of you any ideas as to where I could look now? I'm only on Genes & I can't find her there after 1911?

Many thanks for your help with the Census, truly appreciate it.

Cheers.

Kiwi Joy.

Notes that 1891 occ. of William is Builder, not Butcher!.

(would also say that looks like Toward)

The transcribed 'Samuel' on the 1891 census does NOT read Samuel on the original.

It definitely looks like 'TOWARD' to me ? :-S

Hi Choccy,

Right - well, William was a Bricklayer on the 1881 Census, so it seems a big jump to him becoming a Butcher?

So, although it seems like Sarah is his wife and Bridget is dead I can't find either a Marriage Cert for Sarah, or a Death Cert for Bridget!?

I have to take into consideration the tale that my mother told me, that my Grandfather told her, that he had to comb his mothers hair because she couldn't do it, so she could have been ill and alive from him being anywhere from age 5 years of age upwards I suppose.

Although I haven't any proof, I'm assuming that Bridget is Dead by 1891 as there is a hereditary disease in the family of which her father died too, plus her son, James Toward, my Grandfather also died with it.

William's son, Richard died in Sept. 1893, William was the informant. Sarah died in 1892. I notice that James Toward b. 1891 isn't on the 1891 Census, but a Samuel b. 1882 is - a year after my Grandfather was born. This is getting very interesting.

Why haven't I found anything on Samuel anywhere before??

Also William later married again to a Margaret Little in 1986.

Hope that helps you. If you need anything else let me know. I shan't be on the Comp. much longer tonight, but I definitely will reply when I'm up in the morning.
Sorry about the time delay but it's one of the quirks of living in New Zealand.

Thanks very much for your help.

Kiwi Joy

this looks like the right family, although the wife is now Sarah ?

William's occupation is completely different - is this another family ?

Can you give more information about this person eg. place of birth, spouse or other family members on census.

I don't see any Nevies although there is a Neaves and a Neves. Also a couple of Vevers and Veevers. All on Ancestry.

KiwiJoy Report 21 Nov 2012 04:26

I was doing a check on my William Vevers b. 1850, on the 1891 Census and the last time I looked I had to use the name NEVIES as it wasn't under VEVERS - and it still isn't under VEVERS? (The kind folk at the Mormon Church found it under NEVIES for me, after I'd tried for months to find it.).

And would you believe it is the only Census page I haven't got a copy of either!!

Now it seems to have got lost somewhere? I've looked under the above name and tried a multitude of variations using the "similar sounding" buttons etc. The strange thing is I could find it before the "change over".

If anybody has any ideas I'd be very grateful. I'm hoping it's something very simple...

Cheers.

Kiwi Joy.
