My ancestors are definitely in the census, but Genes Reunited does not have them. Does anyone know why if all the 1841 Census have been recorded?

They are in Yorkshire: William Laycock, Ann Laycock & children William, Martha, Mary, Sarah & John.

Thanks, Nancy

Thank you Thelma:
I tried several times to find my William Laycock family on Genes, but it always came up zero. How did you do it? Along time ago I found this same Fewston View somewhere else, but thought Genes didn't have it.

My Laycocks married in York in 1822, had six children (one daughter Emma died in 1833) & then in 1844 the family immigrated to America.

How would I be able to find them in 1831? I live in California & don't have much of a chance to get to the church records in West Yorkshire.

Hi, Nancy,

The 1841 census is the first modern UK census and the earliest census that has survived in its entirety. Only local fragments of the 1801, 1811, 1821 and 1831 censuses survived once the statistical information was collected.

Thanks:
Yes, I've used family search many times over the years & even gone to one of their genealogy libraries nearby. It's a great site & has helped me a lot.

Maybe I need to buy Genes "credits" to search further. Do they really help?

Yes they would help, although my preference in your case would be to buy a premium Ancestry sub - one of their collections is:
West Yorkshire, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1512-1812
Also, as a Calif resident, when you buy a sub from ancestry.co.uk, they don't charge their VAT tax - abt a 15% discount

Ancestry has baptisms for all the children's names; William's occupation given as Wheelwright - 1841 gives occupation as Mechanic, so possibly the same man. Most of the baptisms are in Leeds:

West Yorkshire, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1910

Name: William Laycock
Parish: Farnley, St Michael
Baptism Date: 30 Jan 1825
Father's Name: William Laycock
Mother's Name: Ann Laycock

Name: Hartha Laycock
Parish: Rawdon, St Peter
Baptism Date: 13 Apr 1823
Father's Name: William Laycock
Mother's Name: Ann Laycock

Name: Sarah Ann Laycock
Birth Date: 16 Oct 1827
Parish: Leeds, St Peter
Baptism Date: 29 Mar 1829
Father's Name: William Laycock
Mother's Name: Ann Laycock

Name: Mary Laycock
Birth Date: 23 Feb 1829
Parish: Leeds, St Peter
Baptism Date: 29 Mar 1829
Father's Name: William Laycock
Mother's Name: Ann Laycock

about John Laycock
Name: John Laycock
Birth Date: 18 Mar 1831
Parish: Leeds, St Peter
Baptism Date: 17 Apr 1831
Father's Name: William Laycock
Mother's Name: Ann Laycock

Here's "Emma" - image is Emina:

Name: Emina Laycock
Birth Date: 4 Nov 1833
Parish: Leeds, St Peter
Baptism Date: 1 Sep 1834
Father's Name: William Laycock
Mother's Name: Ann Laycock

When you say the married in York, did you mean the county rather than the city? This William was a wheelwright and the marriage is where the earlier baptisms were:

Name: William Laycock
Marriage or Bann Date: 19 Aug 1822
Parish: Leeds, St Peter
Spouse's Name: Ann Hainsworth

If you take out an Ancestry sub you will be able to view the images - you can take a free fortnight but be sure to cancel it if you don't want to continue, as you be charged if you don't!

I would advise against spending money on Genes for research

They do NOT have any records of their own........everything they charge you for is taken from other sites

Thanks for the tip Reggie. I'll try to remember that.
