I just reread your above email & I looked at the site you gave. I live in California, USA, so I wouldn't know where to send a letter of inquiry to a library in that location. Any ideas?

Thank you for all your email suggestions. I wish I could make a trip to see Horsforth & the other locations my ancestors lived in and around Leeds. I'm 76, still in pretty good health,but doubt I'll be doing much traveling, especially with the high cost of doing it now.

Looking at Scotland Lane on Zoopla, there is a Brae Fell, a Braemar, Inverarish,
Lomond, Scotland Villa and some Engish places I recognise with connections to water.

There isn't a Glasgow and I don't know what other properties there are on the road that didn't make it onto the Zoopla information.

It is definitely worth checking for a local history group or if not, dropping the relevant library a letter to see if there is a heritage department there or at another library in the region.

I think it's interesting if you Google Scotland and Horsforth together you get result Scotland Way Horsforth. Scroll down and I think on page 2 there is on 192.com an address on there for property called 'Innisfree'. Worth doing some more work on your theory because if 'Innisfree' why not 'Glasgow'?

I do think that our ancestors travelled about much more than we give them credit for.

As you have a date of death, it may be worth looking for a possible burial in Glasgow?

Someone suggested that to me once before. However, my gg grandfather was a wheelwright when he married his wife in 1822 & on his immigration to Boston in 1844 it stated he was a "mechanic" on the ship list.

Doesn't that make you wonder about his financial income? Fairly meager I'd say for 1835 & a family of six children. Did people like my gg grandfather really have the means to go out of their surroundings to visit Scotland? Emmay was only two & a half years old when she died!

The fact that he has written Glasgow Scotland one would think that he meant Glasgow, Scotland. Perhaps they were visiting there?

Question:
Was there really a hamlet called "Scotland" in the township of Horsforth & parish of Guiseley back in the 1830's?
I just rediscovered a printed page I got from Genuki.org.uk back in 2007 with that info.

Now, I'm wondering if my gg grandfather's bible note for the death of his little daughter, Emmay was correct or not.

This is what he wrote:
Emmay Laycock died 10 Aug. in Glasgow Scotland
Aged 2 years 9 months
And 6 days in the year 1835

Now for the big question:
Since records for the family can be found in towns like Guiseley, Armley, Horsforth & Leeds would you guess Emmay died in West Yorkshire & not in Glasgow, Scotland, the country???
