Any Royal Navy Experts out There?

I found out recently that one of my great uncles became Head Chef at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich after a long career on ships.

From his naval record (which I already have from the National Archives site) I imagine this would have been in the 1930s early 1940s, after active service.

I see that Navy News only started in 1954 and wondered if there was anywhere else I could possibly find reference to him. Name is Colin Campbell 1887 -1944

Many thanks

Janet

Have you contacted the College?

Not yet no, I only found out a day or two ago, although looking at their website I fear they will not answer direct queries, and any info will be at Natonal Arhives.

I will try though

As far as I am aware, the catering staff at the Naval College were civilians, usually retired naval personnel. Certainly this was the case in 1962, when we were there, and my OH thinks this would have been the case pre-war.

The personnel records are now at The National Maritime Museum (found by Googling) and I think they can be seen by arrangement. On the website click on Archives and put Royal Naval College Greenwich in the Search box.
