To reiterate, and elaborate..............he was born NO LATER than 31st March 1883.........and AFTER 31st March 1882

This assumes that he gave accurate age info on the census form

You must take into account the location, and not just latch on to anyone with the name of roughly the right age.

I think this is the William John that you found the christening for in 1891 and his parents in 1881. However his father was a boot seller in 1881 but he did die fairly young

William and Elizabeth were married August the 9th 1903 both aged 20,
witnesses Charles Thomas French who was Elizabeth's father and a Emily Jones
my friend as all the information on the French family but nothing on Williams family, with a surname like Jones it's like looking for needle in a hay stack. been going though most of the census looking for names George, Emily , William Jones in the London, Middlesex areas but nothing matches up

if he was 20 August in 1903, and 28 in the 1911 census what year was he born,

Elizabeth Maud French was born May 7th 1883

I've looked at the 1891 Census for 5 Temple Street, St George the Martyr in Lambeth District and there were no Wilson's living there.

To see the page go to the 1891 Census (Ancestry) and at the bottom where it says RG12 type in 349 for Piece and any number between 9-14 for Folio. Click on Search and it should take you to a list of names. Click on any of the Images. Then go to Image 13. This should be 5 Temple Street.

The man shown on 1911 census is unlikely to be the one whose school info is posted...........he would have been born no later than 31st March 1883...........not in October of that year

Thank you for your reply s, that where I got the information from on Ancestry, trying to trace the birth of a William John Jones born 1883 in the 1911 census he is down as William Thomas born St Lukes living in Essex but my friend said her grandfather was always known as William John.

What we know about him
Married in 1903 to Elizabeth Maud French gave fathers name as George Jones a porter.
he had been in the Army his ears were damages, have found Army records for a William Jones which could be him but only 2 pages so not a lot of information.also found 1901 census of a William Jones in the the Army.

Have found William's school record - it look like a beginning of term list - gives William's birth as Oct 1883. It doesn't look like a boarding school or institution, so would presume William was living with his parents.

Possibly the same William, address 86 Union Street.
