If they went to SA then try a free 14 day trial with Ancestry SA - they have some 60's telephone directories. It may, at least, help you find where they were based. Relations of mine found one of their relatives still in same house!!!!

Thinking aloud...

Have you tried using a 'wild card' in your searches? An entry may have been mistranscribed

Have you 'searched trees' recently on either this site, or Ancestry in case someone closely related have them listed?

Have you tried making an internet search for their name(s)?

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927115

have 10 S.African data bases which might help with BMD

Have you tried on Ancestry? They have passenger lists to/from Australia, which may have made a stop in S Africa.

Findmypast also has a collection - if you don't have a subscription to either site, you could make a free search then ask on here for someone to give you the details of 'possibles'

Edit - Oops! Sorry, welcome to the boards :-)
