Joy Report 11 Dec 2013 20:11

I have not experienced HTTP Error 503. But I did have the following, which neither GR nor I could replicate.

:-S :-)

Server Error in Application "GENESREUNITED"
Internet Information Services 7.5
Error Summary
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
Internal Server Error
Detailed Error Information
Module ManagedPipelineHandler
Notification ExecuteRequestHandler
Handler ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0
Error Code 0x800703e9
Requested URL http://www.genesreunited.co.za:80/.../suggest.../thread/1334587
Physical Path D:\websites\GenesReunited\...\suggest...\thread\1334587
Logon Method Custom
Logon User Joy Kentish Maid .
Most likely causes:
IIS received the request; however, an internal error occurred during the processing of the request. The root cause of this error depends on which module handles the request and what was happening in the worker process when this error occurred.
IIS was not able to access the web.config file for the Web site or application. This can occur if the NTFS permissions are set incorrectly.
IIS was not able to process configuration for the Web site or application.
The authenticated user does not have permission to use this DLL.
The request is mapped to a managed handler but the .NET Extensibility Feature is not installed.
Things you can try:
Ensure that the NTFS permissions for the web.config file are correct and allow access to the Web server's machine account.
Check the event logs to see if any additional information was logged.
Verify the permissions for the DLL.
Install the .NET Extensibility feature if the request is mapped to a managed handler.
Create a tracing rule to track failed requests for this HTTP status code. For more information about creating a tracing rule for failed requests, click here.
Links and More Information
This error means that there was a problem while processing the request. The request was received by the Web server, but during processing a fatal error occurred, causing the 500 error.

If you read this thread Trevor you may find out what the problem is and how to fix it....otherwise you could go onto Genes facebook page and eventually they may also tell you how to do the same

Just to add this thread is almost a year old and the current problems are on the last page

I have had HTTP Error 503, Service unavailable, for the last couple of days and have been unable to access my tree on my Computer. The strange thing is that I have been able to do so on my wife's computer upstairs. What is happening?

David, soon after the problem occurred there were threads about it on at least three boards all of which gave the solution. An announcement by GR would probably not have helped many more.

As I understandit there was a solution on Facebook and I would expect that if those affected emailed the Support Team then they have received the information.

It wasn't particularly GR's fault as other sites that weren't fully compatible with IE11 were also affected. GR may not have been aware that there was a problem until those affected emailed them.

Error 503

I see there has been a posting by Estelle of Genes Reunited who apologises for the Error 503 problem.

What I'd like to know why wasn't some notification posted explaining the problem and its causes and more importantly the cure.

After all we are all subscribers and entitled to a service we have paid for.

Is GR going to extend our subscription period to make up for the loss of service and inconvenience they have caused or do they think an apology after the event is satisfactory.

It strikes me GR are taking their customers for granted.

Maybe we are on the wrong site?

Hi Shelley

Thanks for this.

When you fix 'it', please don't 'UNFIX' our own solution

Maureen - GR have said that they are trying to add a patch from their end, but in the meantime the following works for most people who have been updated to IE11

Click the Tools icon (or Alt + X) - the cog shaped one top right of your screen

Click Compatibility View settings in the drop down list

Add the Genes Reunited website - genesreunited.co.uk

Hi Shelley

This issue 'relates' to IE11 but is ultimately GR's issue as GR cannot make it 'compatible'

Same old............

Sally - have a look at this thread. Just click on the link to open in a new tab

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/general_chat/thread/1334369

Apparently the error is caused by a recent update to Windows IE11. There are instructions on that thread on how to revert to an earlier version.

If you can't understand them, add to THAT thread and someone more knowledgeable will come to your rescue

I'm getting a 503 error on my normal computer, a laptop. This has stopped me getting to the site all day, however an old desktop gets on with no problem and I can Logon. Weird !

Have done a Norton scan and tried restarting several times.

Any suggestions please.

Hello everyone, we are really sorry that you have been experiencing problems with the tree again. We have been having problems with one of our servers, which has overloaded and caused the error message.

This has now been fixed and you should be able to use the tree again.

Good news for those experiencing problems...... :-D :-D :-D
