i have found on family search.org
philip dawson 68862 6th bat royal warwicks reg
short service record 276 days discharged on paragraph 392(xv)
it also mentions royal regiment of artillary
does this mean he swopped from one to the other
and how could i find out

This gives you all the reasons for being discharged. You will see that paragraph 392(xv) means that he was discharged free as he had completed a certain number of years.

Looks like he was already serving with the 6th Battalion when he attested to the Artillery in 1912. The 6th would have been a local unit to him at home and part time, given his occupation is listed as labourer, unless called to do otherwise (like the Territorials today). Google for info.

There are not many pages of his papers, possibly the code for discharge was on a summary page and the reasons why are on pages lost?
I think it might say 392(xv) A (then KR for Kings Regulations)

Those attestation papers dated 22 March 1912 appear to show that he was joining the Royal Regiment of Artillery but was already a serving member of 6th Bttn Royal Warwickshire.

Quite possible that previous service records are missing.

Where was he on 1911 census?

1901 census shows him as Philip John Dawson - - Dec Qtr 1893 Aston, Warwicks 6D 406

The WW1 Royal Warwickshire Reg death in Mesopotamia is of a Philip Dawson (there is a Philip b 1887 in Birmingham on the 1911)
