OneFootInTheGrave Report 31 Dec 2012 14:39

Can anyone assist, I am trying to find information on the birth of a James Clusker, he married a Mary McDade in 1884 in Fauldhouse in Scotland, the marriage certificate shows his father as Patrick Clusker and his mother, I can't read it clearly, I think is says she was a Susan MacLare.

On the 1901 Census for Scotland he is living in West Lothian and his birth place is given as Ireland. I am trying to confirm his date and place of birth and that his parents were Patrick Clusker and Susan MacLare.

Best Wishes & A Happy New Year to all of you who voluntarily give your time to help us amateurs :-)

Thanks Anne,

I have most of the information for his siblings, somehow there is little information on James, I only discovered him when I was looking at other Clusker marriage on SP and noted who his parents were on his marriage certificate and thought I have those parents on my tree so decided to look further into James.

Wishing You A Very Happy & Prosperous New Year

James

Hi James,
Your tree is missing Felix Clusker.
He married Agnes McMahon in Uphall in 1890

Not sure about this as his age is out, but this appears to be the family of Peter Clusker who married Maggie O'Donnelly in Denny, Stirlingshire in 1896.
( I suspect Maggie was married before?)

There's the difficulty with trying to find a birth date and place of birth when someone was born before civil registration of 1864 in Ireland.

You could try http://www.findmypast.co.uk/army-service-records-search.action?redef=M&submit=1 - in case he has army records there.

Hi Anne,

Ay long last the tree is working again I have added much of the information you provided and have have also updated my Bernard Clusker entries as it appears there were two children named Bernard. One died in infancy and for the other I found the details his marriage from the army records Moody Blue sent me a while back. I think he and his wife went to the USA after he came out the army in the early 1900's.

I am still a bit puzzled though about who Felix was living with in 1901. From what you provided I am assuming that he was visiting/lodging with the family you gave in the 1901 Census:-

1901 Scotland Census
about Felix Clusker:-

Margret Clusker 33
Duncan Clusker 11
Agnes Clusker 6
James Clusker 2
Felix Clusker 47

At first I thought that the Margret Clusker was the Maggie O'Donnelly b1867 who was married to Peter Clusker in Denny, Stirlingshire, Scotland in 1896, but then I looked at the children's ages and they don't tie in with that marriage, so I will now have to try and find out who that Margaret was :-(

Best Wishes,

James

James, did you look at the army records to which I gave you a link?

GlasgowLass Report 2 Jan 2013 15:39

Hi James,
On the 1901 census, Felix is entered as Brother in law to Margaret who was head of household.
Felix's place of birth is Ireland and Margaret's is Denny.... which is why I am sure she is the woman who married Peter Clusker.
The ages of the kids are the reason I think she may have been married before, or had children out of wedlock.
You would need to look at the Clusker/O'Donnelly marriage in Denny to confirm.

EDIT: pretty sure james!

Hi Joy Kentish Maid,

I had a quick look, I have about 20 army records for him but as most refer to his drunken escapades and punch ups with his senior officers I decided only to attach two on his profile.

Thanks & Best Wishes,

James

Okay. From experience, usually a place and date of birth are given.

Hi Anne,

Yes looking at that 1891 Scotland Census about Duncan Donnell it would appear to fit. Peter's marriage certificate says she was a spinster and that her father was a James D Donnelly or James O'Donnelly and her mother was I think a Catherine or Katherine but my eyesight is not very good so not sure, I have attached it to them on my tree.

So either she was married twice or young Duncan was born out of wedlock, which would not surprise me when I look at some pf the characters I have discovered on my side of the family :-(

Thank for that information,

James

Hi Anne,

Once again you are spot on, I have found the Birth Certificate for Duncan on SP, he was born in Dunipace in Stirlingshire on 14/07/1889, he is shown as illegitimate and mother is shown as Maggie O'Donnelly a domestic servant, no fathers name given.

I have added him to my tree and attached this to his details.

Thanks Again,

James

Was there no place and date of birth given in army records, James?

(Just trying to be helpful.)

OneFootInTheGrave Report 3 Jan 2013 10:32

Morning Joy Kentish Maid,

I welcome all help and suggestions I get from the members on here <3

My initial problem was that I had only one Bernard on my tree and he was born in 1865 and I married him off to Josephine McDermott.

After searching through various Irish sites I discovered that the Bernard born in 1865 died in 1869 aged three. It transpired that the parents had another son in 1870 and named him Bernard and it was that Bernard who married Josephine McDermott in 1901.

His army papers give his year and place of birth, parents, and date and place of marriage, this meant I had to make some adjustments to my tree.

However that exercise was a a total waste of time as all the dates and notes that I made on individuals details have disappeared overnight :-(

Best Regards,

James

I meant the possible army record for James :)

I am sorry about the lost details. For safety, I only use an offline family tree.

Hi James,
I use an offline tree too. ( downloaded free from family search many moons ago)

On Anc, my tree has 2231 document attached but it is unsearcheable and completely private.
(If the tree was searcheable, the docs would also show to exists).
I update this continually, and every 3 months, I export a gedcom and upload it to ANC as a secondary tree, deleting it's pre decessor.
No docs/photos upload with a gedcom which prevents regular, unconnected requests for copies This tree is still private but names can be found on an ANC search allowing others to contact me.
