Gedcom finally imported but its a mess

I am not happy could not import a new gedcom last week as there was a problem on here ,finally managed it today and its a mess???My grandfather born in 1899 and died in 1924 is now married to my cousins husband , and his father is Rachel ???
What am I paying for ?

Gedcom file transfers are not a precise as many think and transfer failures can happen Dates containing separator characters such as / - = * etc seem prone to this so it is best to stick with formats such as 22 May 1957.

First of all you need to confirm that the gedcom file you are importing is not corrupted. Are you able to load it into anther tree program to check it out?

If all appears correct with your file then I would import it a second time to GR and if there is still a problem, report the details to their support team.

When I transferred my tree from here to Ancestry, I lost 10-15 people.

But much easier than entering it all again.

18 mths later I think I have all those 'lost' people and 100's more thanks to the hints and contacts.

thanks for your replies I always put dates as ie 22 May 1821 I dont put / I have this tree on Ancestry and its fine on there I also have it on a FTM programme and Tribal Pages and its fine there too .
Will have another go but dont see how it will change things?

For what its worth I have just uploaded my tree from my FTM program and all went ok. Took 13 minutes end to end and on checking the results, no obvious errors so far.

Val - in order to ascertain if it is your gedcom or GR causing the problem, ideally you need to load the exact same file you sent to GR back into FTM or other reference program and check the results. It is just possible the gedcom file is corrupted in some way. It has happened to me in the past so I know it can be a problem. Otherwise create an entirely new gedcom file from scratch and try with that.

Probably best to delete the tree you are trying to replace before importing a new Gedcom.

One common error is to try and access your tree before it has returned to its "Ready" state as that will stop the import functioning properly.
