Ancestry has index of members of the Royal Irish Constabulary (1816-1921). Don't assume that just because he was a member, he was Irish. My uncle was in the RIC and he was born in London. Lots of English ex-soldiers were recruited after WW1. My uncle's entry gives birth county.

thank you for this info - the only link we have to the irish connection is that my mother in law referred to her dad as being Irish, however he died before she was 10 and she herself died over 20 years ago so we have no documents to go on.

My mother in law's father was James Mc Veigh and his father Daniel McVeigh. James was married in 1923, in Islington at the age of 44 and by this time his father was already deceased. these are the only details we have.

Will see what can be found for you...
Are we looking RC/other..?

mamaoates Report 12 Jan 2013 18:18

if by RC you are referring to religion i think possibly yes as my mother in law was a devout catholic so at least one of her parents must have been.

i also know from the wedding certificate that although deceased he was referred to as having been a sergent
