If you wanted to confirm Norah's maiden name, have you thought about ordering a BC for one of her children?

Sally Report 17 Jan 2013 18:22

Pretty sure they were a lot of half truths and blatant lies!

99% sure my grandfather's mother lied on his birth certificate about being married to the father as there doesn't seem to be a record for a potential marriage either here or in Argentina (where his father was supposedly from).

Reggie Report 17 Jan 2013 17:47

Who are you trying to pin down?

Geraldine Report 17 Jan 2013 13:26

thanks everyone

its s possible answer at the moment

i know people lied about ages or simply they did know how old they were . i just can find a marriage for a relative , order cert and it didnt match :( oh the joins of genes .

GlitterBaby Report 17 Jan 2013 12:33

My great grandmother lied on 1901 and 1911 census and married in 1914

Yes indeed .. they wouldnt want neighbors etc to know their personal business

MargaretM Report 17 Jan 2013 11:16

Oh yes, I've seen many cases where a couple claims to be married when they're not. Sometimes because one partner is already married to someone else.

Geraldine Report 17 Jan 2013 11:08

just wondering could someone put down being married on census form ,

if they were not legally married in 1901 in the uk .

just hit a brick wall
