If he married Hannah Taylor then he re-enlisted 10 Mar 1915 and his pension record is on Ancestry immediately after the above 3 images.


The record Jan posted is correct and if you scroll on pages it does show his wife as Hannah. The record underneath the correct record on Ancestry has a wife called Rebecca and is not the same Charles.

There appear to be several images on Ancestry Military Records (British Army WW1 Pension Records) for Charles Shaw.

Chest measurement: 34"
Complexion: Fresh
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Light Brown
Religion: C of England
Distinctive Marks: Scar on left side.

A Charles Shaw goes into the Army Reserve in January 1898.
A Charles Shaw is recalled to Army Service 17 March 1900 embarking for South Africa with the Sherwood Forresters (Derbyshire Regiment), at that time his next of kin is Hannah Shaw, 12 Meadow Road, Ironville, Alfreton. Discharged is 14 Oct 1902.

Re-enlistment Form reveals....
10 March 1915
Age 45
Height: 5'8"
Scar on left side.
Discharged 4 Dec 1918.
Next of Kin Hannah Shaw, 37 Johnson St, Sheepbridge, Chesterfield, Derby.
Wife: Hannah Shaw.

That record shows his wife to be Rebecca Cheetham, so its a diiferent man

charles shaw born 1867.. age 24 in 1891...he was a private in sherwood foresters stationesd in 1891 at disrict.. st germans antony.. parish antony cornwall
charles came from alfreton in derbyshire...

i am new to this site, i have searched the site and found my great grandfather, served in the army in 1891... i found a document on here bu would like to obtain the full record anyone know where i can get this? i have tried the archives in kew, very unhelpful :-( :-(
